Thanks for starting this thread. I've been meaning to ask people their thoughts on how to store my 10,000+ pictures in a safe place that fire or B&E couldn't take them from me forever.

Most (all) of my pics and videos were taken on iphone or android phones, so I don't think the resolution restrictions would be a problem. I'm a gmail person, so would google+ be the right option for me?

Sorry if this is considered a thread derailment. I thought my question fit here.

Keep in mind that Flickr/Google+/Facebook etc. aren't designed to be backup services. You can keep your photos there, but there isn't really a good way to sync them back to your PC.

I hate the re-design of the site. I suppose they want to be more of a display source than just a host, but that endless scrolling really makes it difficult to see a specific picture then return to where you were. It is almost like Yahoo is trying to make it look cool but trading off functionality.

But they were losing their base as it was, so perhaps this will draw in fresh users. Either that or they will alienate the users they did have.

Until they fix their crappy way to login, they could offer a million terabytes and I still wouldn't use it.

Can't say I like the new design of the site, and unlike places like facebook where it is free I have a beef here since I pay for a pro account.

Reminds me of a gear grinder; when somebody posts a nice photo of something and I ask them if they can email the original to me- and they respond with "It's on Facebook."

I haven't taken a hard look at the redesign yet, but from what I'm hearing it won't pull me away from SmugMug. Sure it costs me $40/year, but the ability to find any photo I want at any given time within about 10 seconds is huge for me. Sharing a single image or a gallery of images with or without a password is also just a massive feature.

Serious gear grinder, I hate the compression artifacts that Facebook's compression creates. If I upload at Facebook's display resolution (even with "keep high res" on), then download the picture from Facebook, the file size is sometimes about 20% the size of the one I uploaded (and it shows).

It drives me insane one two fronts when somebody tells me they use Facebook as their photo backup solution: they don't realize what it's doing to their photos and Facebook does a piss-poor job of letting people know.
