New 311 app for your smartphone
Quote:
311 Calgary mobile app is your on-the-go connection to The City. Report and track select City services via your smart phone using location based technology with the option to include a photo of the concern.

The public can upload photos of just about anything to the system (graffiti, swears, etc). This is a catch-all rating in case there are questionable photos circulating throughout the SR's.
Note, it is now 311, and not 3-1-1. The City would like to move people away from thinking its just a phone number.

I just reported a missing yield sign that I noticed this morning. Let's see how this thing works.

Well Sanford and Son down the alley is gonna pay....running an illegal mechanical shop out of his garage with 9 broken down cars in his yard.....he also dumps oil from oil changes in his yard......the fence on his property next to the path by his house has fallen onto the path.....And finally he has over 50 pigeons cooped up on his roof...in his attic and soffits....lovely person who didn't bother acquiring a building permit for the 1200 sq ft addition on his house.....city and area alderman keep fining him and he does nothing each time ....what a joke

Anyone having fun looking at the recent complaints others have posted in the app? Some of them are just downright petty.

Ugg, ya this will be efficient. Now the 311 operators have to sift through the petty muck for the real problems.

Filtering out 10 stupid complaints likely takes less time than answering a single phone call.

I would happily spend a few hours a week as unpaid labour responding to stupid 311 complaints with sarcasm and bile.

I submitted a pic of a bunch of oil stains in the road, down the street from where I live. The residents didn't move their vehicles and they don't actually live there anymore. So when they moved last week they left behind a bunch of oil and gravel and crap.
As of an hour ago the ticket says "closed." I'm going to have to see if something has been done. Was hoping that the street cleaners would come again and clean it. I guess we'll see.

Does anyone know if 311 has a historical view of certain communities, streets or even houses?
I know the app provides a short history of the city and complaints.
Even a year of data would be great, seeing which houses get the most noise complaints or something like that.

Don't think that data is published publicly. If you wanted, you could always spend $25 and submit a FOIP request

I guess I see it as public info, kinda like the CPS crime map.
