Muslim vigilantes in London
Apparently there's a growing trend of Muslim moral vigilantes in London.
Quote:
'Muslim Patrols' have approached Londoners and demanded they behave in an Islamic way by not drinking. They have also told women to put more clothes on, claiming they are entering 'Muslim areas'. Their actions could be “a sign of things to come” and are part of a pattern of extremism spreading across Europe in different forms, be it far right fascism or Islamism, Mr Nawaz said, chairman of the Quilliam Foundation, an anti-extremist organization

Really don't understand how these people can be imposing their beliefs and versions of morality on others especially after immigrating to a western country. Government should get involved and nip this in the bud before it gets too widespread.

This will get ugly so freaking fast it'll make the LA Riots seem like a church camping trip.
If there is one type of powder keg in Europe, it's race relations. Even in the more "progressive" countries like England.

Didn't things get pretty rough in the Netherlands a few years back- beyond the Theo Van Gogh incident.

The Quilliam Foundation, which appears to be the sole source for the story, is a think tank whose purpose is to "combat Muslim extremism." It's in their own interests to fabricate and/or exaggerate stories like this. That's not to say that there's no truth to the story, because I really have no idea, but I wouldn't put too much faith in their claims.

So are there any actual numbers involved here, or is this just a bunch of fear-mongering on behalf of the Telegraph? How many "Muslim Patrols" are out there?

Seems to be less progressive in some of these more predominantly Muslim extremist filled neighbourhoods. There are some parts of London where the Muslim population is greater than 20% now.

Oh well... at least we shouldn't have this problem in Canada. Most of the time it's too cold for our women to wear anything skimpy

There have been isolated cases of stuff like this but I think the article is making it seem more prevalent than it actually is.
The real problem which governments should take a look at it how some of these communities treat the people (generally women) within their own communities. Enforcing old laws, sharia, stuff like that, that have no legal backing or moral place, in the Western nations. There have been big problems with that because it is easier to hide as those affect don't know they can come forward or are too afraid to.

Paris has some legitimate problems with "Muslim areas".

Not sure how isolated it is. There was the whole "Innocence of Islam" riots not too long ago. 2011 was it?

There are parts of NYC that are heavily orthodox jewish where similar things happen. Women who aren't dressed modestly enough are shouted down on the street etc. and it seems to just be accepted as the way it is. Bizarre.

What difference does it make? This isn't the first time and certainly isn't the last that Islamic fundamentalists begin trying to force their oppressive horsesh-t on free society.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like fundamentalists of any creed; they all have an unbelievable capacity for evil, largely because they believe their actions are divinely warranted. But if you asked me which I thought posed the greatest threat to civilization and present the biggest roadblock to peaceful collaboration, there's no contest.

The difference is that it's one article based on one example and one person's opinion in a crappy paper. They even brought up Hitler for a little extra sensationalism.
If it's a widespread problem, or about to be, as the article implies, then sure, raise a stink. Hell, send out some anti-vigilante vigilantes for all I care, and crack a couple skulls if people are trying to force their religious nuttery on people on the street.
Nothing in that article (more of an opinion piece, far as I can tell) tells us that this is an actual problem, as opposed to a an excuse to rile people up about 'the others'.
The source appears to be a former crazy himself, with an axe to grind, and questionable motives.

Not sure if that happens or not, but I don't think too many people are worried about getting beaten by a bunch of Jews. On the other hand, people are nervous of so called radical Muslim people attacking them, legit or not.
Another key difference is the VAST majority of Jews would consider the situation you described as dumb and are in no way shape or form nervous about saying that out loud in any part of the world.

1. It wasn't just reported on by The Telegraph, so sorry but I don't accept dismissing the issue simply because the source that just so happened to be referenced here has a bad rep. There are others.
2. I think it's more important to have the discussion BEFORE it becomes a widespread problem.

Yup, there are dumb people everywhere.. There are areas of NYC where women are told to move to the side of the sidwalk if they see a man approaching and they had an issue with ulta-Orthodox Jewish men telling the women on public buses to sit in the back. In fact there's a community north of Montreal that is Jewish-only and has some very strict laws for its inhabitants. I was shocked when I first heard of it. Some of their laws;
-No radio, television, record, or cassette is allowed in the buildings of the community
-It is forbidden for men and women to walk together in the street
-No car may be driven by a woman or by an unmarried man
