Default Recording PPV with Shaw

At a buddies last night we decided to watch the flames game while PVR'ing the UFC event, while playing poker. I setup the recording and confirmed there was enough space and no other shows were going to record at the same time. I even hid the remote so no one would accidentally flip channels and screw things up.

After the game ended we started watching the UFC and after about 13 minutes the recording had ended. We didn't even see a single punch thrown.
Anyway, the remote was still on the shelf by the tv, the PVR had about 75% space and I know nothing was messed with.

We called Shaw and after waiting on hold for almost an hour (44 minutes to be exact) the CSR said too bad, that is your fault since you can't record PPVs and they get lots of calls after events claiming something was wrong and they want refunds. We were all pretty choked. I asked him why we can't record PPVs when I do it for almost every event. He said that wasn't possible, and have a good night. He was actually pretty rude about the whole thing. I asked to escalate to a manager and that I would not accept being put on hold.

Five minutes later the manager gets on the phone and claims they do not support recording PPVs so it is not their fault, so we get no refund. I asked her for the exact location for this so called rule, and she said she would look it up. I told her we would wait. This went in circles like this for a while until she gave us the refund. I reminded her that if the PVR can record a PPV they are essentially supporting recording PPVs, so either code it to prevent recording or support it. They shouldn't have it both ways since we couldn't see what seemed like a great UFC.

Does this happen to you guys? I can record every ppv, did Shaw simply mess this one up?

Thanks Mccree, that is so strange. I always pvr any ppv we get. I purchase them then watch them when I have time. I have the old school silver PVR.

I recorded the last GSP fight without issues on my gateway and I've recorded previous fights on my prior DCX and my original silver one. I would call them to see if you can order a rerun of the fight and have that credited on your account - there is no reason why you should pay 50-60 dollars and not be able to watch the fights. They have a record that you ordered the event, so it's not like you're scamming them. Alot of people have to work or are unavailable and record the fights to watch later. Ask for a supervisor if the CSR can't help you.

I find recordings are pretty hit or miss. I did have one fail though and had my money refunded, all of it. I would suggest calling back and trying to get a different CSR or do it online through shaw friends concierge.

Thanks guys, I did post that they gave us the refund. But they were rude about it and claimed our story was not possible.

No commenting on the PPV aspect, but maybe your PVR just glitched. Mine has glitched a couple times, I am going to be talking to Shaw about it shortly. I recorded a hockey game and was watching the first period, with about 3 minutes left all of a sudden I was watching the third period. The track bar at the bottom showed red for the whole middle portion of the game.

Paging our local CP Shaw cable box software architect...You know who you are

Nage Waza has a valid point about content that you shouldn't be allowed to record. There should be a warning or some kind of lock-out. Make it happen haha!
