Default Which Xbox 360 to buy?

It looks like my son will be getting an Xbox 360 for Christmas this year; which of course will also be a good thing for me as well. However I am trying to decide which one to get. The budget is $250, (It was actually $200 so I'm already going over a bit.) That gives me the following options:
XBOX 360 4GB Console With Kinect Bundle
XBOX 360 250GB Bundle

The games included in these packages are not really important to my decision, so it boils down to deciding if having the 250 GB storage will be more useful than having the Kinect Bundle. I do not plan on using it for a media centre, and even if I did I have a few other options available including a dedicated PC there.

First games to be bought will likely be Call of Duty and NHL 2013.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I find the Kinect to be pretty pointless. The extra space is much better in my opinion.

yes. one of the best features of today's consoles is the ability to install games to the hard drive. load times are much faster and the console is much quieter without the disc constantly spinning. and don't forget about any possible DLC packs you may want to buy for games, with only 4GB available you would be constantly deleting/redownloading that stuff

Kinect IMO is a gimmick much like the Wii. it'll be neat for a few weeks, then sit there collecting dust

I got a Kinect for Christmas the year it came out.

The last time I used it was that Boxing Day.

Yeah I'm sure you can find a kinect in the future for $50 anyway if you decide you want to try it.

I appreciate everybody's input. It sounds like a common thought on the Kinect. However let me ask this- how many of you have kids who use the Xbox more than you do? Because I know "single guy Ken in his 30s" wouldn't have used the Kinect much, but a 12 year old might.

I don't have kids but even when I was 12 I wouldn't have been interested in something like the Kinect. I'd suggest looking at Kinect games and make your decision based on that. Honestly, if your son is into something like CoD then I doubt he's gonna want to play anything on the Kinect.

My kids only ever use my xbox, and they can play without assistance with the connect (ages 3 and 5). Give them any controller, including a Wiimote, and they are stumped and Daddy needs to come help them.

I purchased the 4GB version last year, and there is a ton of room on it, that said, I am not a console gamer so YMMV.

I think the idea of purchasing a 250GB xbox, and grabbing a used Kinect is probably the best financial choice, though.

Definintely go for the 250 GB Option, I got a Kinect for Christmas last year, and that is basically the last time I used it.

The only thing it is good for now is "XBOX" "PAUSE" on Netflix when you lose your controller...

I am facing the same decision right now as well.. 4 and 6 year old and I am leaning towards the Kinect bundle. the more they can do themselves without me helping the better. also daughter 6 all she wants to play is just dance 4 or something

I'm sure the interests of a 12-year old son and a 6-year old daughter are quite different. I suspect your son is getting to the age where he'll be playing games online with his buddies. And I kinda doubt they'll be playing Kinect games online together.

I'll throw my hat into the "buy a used Kinect if you really want one" crowd.

Thanks again everybody!

Next question- has anybody seen the 250 GB unit on for less than $250? Seems to be a standard price, but perhaps there is somewhere that is cheaper.

I think that's pretty standard but at times you can find bundles at the exact same price.

Right now BestBuy has the 250 GB unit with two games (Forza 4 and Skyrim) for 249. I think a headset is included as well.

That's the best it's been at minus the one time it went to $200 at BB for Black Friday. The bundles of games and whatnot probably aren't as tempting if they're for your kids.

I bought off Kijiji a 250 GB 360 with the Kinect and a few games. Quite enjoyed it. I think the little ones will like the novelty of the Kinect. I get quite a bit of exercise from the gym, hockey, and other sports but don't mind play some Kinect games.

$250 is what I have seen all over. But come next week things might change.

Thanks again everbody for your help. Ended up getting it at SuperStore. They had their usual "spend $250 and get a $25 gift card" promotion. So effectively got it for $225.

I did go with the 250 GB bundle.
