Favorite Films of 2012
2012 has been a really solid year for movies, which is reflected in the huge box office numbers for plenty of films.
My Top Ten*:
1. Killing Them Softly
2. Argo
3. Looper
4. Seven Psychopaths
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. Skyfall
7. Avengers
8. Dredd
9. Flight
10. Lincoln
Honourable mentions:
Prometheus, Lawless, Cabin in The Woods, End of Watch, Chronicle
* Its hard to put a list like this together with films like The Hobbit, Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Great Gatsby still left to come out. And I also fully admit that I have not yet seen The Master.
What were your favorite films of the year?

I've only seen 7 movies from this year so:
The Avengers
Dark Knight Rises
The Hunger Games
The Amazing Spiderman
Ted
The Expendables 2
Brave
I still plan on watching Skyfall, The Hobbit, Django, Zero Dark Thirty and the Great Gatsby so my list will change. 7 Psychopaths, Argo, Flight, Lincoln, The Man With the Iron Fists, Madagascar 3 and Ice Age will all be watched on DVD when they come out

I've seen quite a few movies this year but the ones I liked most were in no particular order
The Avengers
Argo
Wreak it Ralph
Ted
Dark Knight Rises
Skyfall
Cabin in the Woods
Dredd
Looper
Brave
Haven't got a chance to see 7 psychopaths or Lincoln yet though I heard those are good. I plan to see Lincoln first then Lincoln vampire hunter right after!

The Avengers was great. Skyfall was quite good. Nothing else really stands out.

From best to worst the movies I have seen in theaters in 2012:
The Dark Knight Rises
Argo
The Avengers
Looper
The Cabin in the Woods
Chronicle
Prometheus
Skyfall
The Grey
Life of Pi
Dredd 3D
Lincoln
End of Watch
Seven Psychopaths
The Hunger Games
Flight
The Bourne Legacy (the lack of an ending still seems off)
The Amazing Spider-Man
Sinister (the snuff films were pretty damn scary)
Premium Rush
The Awakening
Lawless
Safe House
Men in Black 3
Haywire
21 Jump Street
Coriolanus
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
The Man With the Iron Fists
Snow White
Chernobyl Diaries
American Reunion
Total Recall
The Dictator
Contraband
Battleship
The Expendables 2
Taken 2
Safe
Wrath of the Titans (Sort of a bipolar year for Liam Neeson)
The Raven
Paranormal Activity 4
Red Dawn
Underworld Awakening
Resident Evil: Retribution
Ghost Rider 2
Red Tails
Pirahna 3DD
The Devil Inside
Like others I am expecting a few movies still to come will crack the top ten. The Hobbit, Django, Zero Dark Thirty, and maybe even Jack Reacher all look like candidates to do so.

Cain in the Woods
Dark Knight Rises
Argo
Dredd 3D
Looper
I saw other films like Prometheus and Chronicle, but I didn't care for them. The ones mentioned above are the one's I'd actually recommend people watch.

Chronicle was 2012? It seems so long ago. But yeah, I enjoyed that one as well. Also The Bourne Legacy. The bigger lists are helping me out.

I haven't seen a lot so far this year, maybe about a dozen. I can think of only six that I'd put on any sort of 'favorite' list:
Lincoln
Skyfall
Prometheus
Avengers
Looper
Moonrise Kingdom

I forgot about Premium Rush and Bourne Legacy, not top ten but certainly I would recommend them to people.... On the other hand I wish I could forget about Red Dawn, Total Recall, and The Man With The Iron Fists.

Amazing how many people liked Dark Knight rises. I thought it was okay after I saw it, then watched it again and it was terrible.
This blog is a little indulgent but it does go into some of the reasons I really didn't like the movie.

Feel the same way. 1st time I thought it was okay, second time I basically hated it. So many dumb things happen in the movie, so many ultra convenient plot lines. I would go so far as to say it's one of the worst films of the year, given the hype, the budget, the previous Nolan Batman films.
Nothing really stands out for me as a great film I've seen in 2012. I have found watching Prometheus again was better than the 1st time, the movie has grown on me.

Gatsby got pushed back to summer 2013. So you can all await my ranting on how Toby McGuire is a terrible Nick Carraway for a few more months.

Avengers and Cabin In The Woods were just fun and probably the most memorable this year for me....but this thread has shown me how far I am behind on movies.
Looper, Total Recall, Argo, The Bourne movie (whatever it was called), Dredd, End of Watch are all on my play list plus so much more. I find TV shows like breaking bad and walking dead to often be better than movies so I watch more tv than cinema. Ill be back to this thread in a few weeks to update my post.

Skyfall
The Dark Knight Rises
Lincoln
The Avengers
--- (Slight drop) ---
Prometheus
The Cabin in the Woods
--- (Massive drop) ---
Act of Valor
Contraband
To be added when I see them: The Hobbit, The Master

Hard to rank them, but the best films I saw this year (from this year):
Dark Knight Rises
MIB III
The Grey
Ted
Avengers
The Grey, IMO, was a vastly underrated film that quickly crawled into one of my favorites of all time. It's hard to explain exactly why, but for some reason or another I just thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I just loved everything about the final scene.

Both of those were released in 2011, but you're right that they're both good.
