Good non-alcoholic beers?
Not sure if this thread title is an oxymoron, but I thought I would try anyways. My wife and I are avid beer drinkers and are now also expectant parents. Anyone know of any decent tasting non-alcoholic beers my wife could try?

Erdinger makes a decent non alcoholic beer. Probably the best I've had. That was the drink of choice when my wife was pregnant. Co-op liquor stores carry them.

This. Erdinger Alkoholfrei is far far better than any other non-alcoholic beer I've tried.

O'Doul's is the only decent brand, all others are pretty bad. Excaliber in the UK is decent, have not seen it for sale here though. Bottom line is, even after 18 years of being a non-drinker you never forget what a real beer tastes like but O'Doul's can tie you over.

You'd have to pound one back every 5 minutes. Better be near a bathroom.

As a beer lover, when I was pregnant, I tried 2 near-beers. the first half is ok, the other half went down the drain. I actually had better luck with the non-alcoholic coolers. I think I got them at Sobeys and tasted like Smirnoff Ice.

Depends what your wife likes.
If she's normally a light beer drinker (simple lagers like Bud or Stella) then O'Douls regular or Warsteiner are good options.
If she likes dark beers there's way fewer options, but O'Douls amber is solid.
My personal favourite, but only if you like skunkier beers like Heineken, is Clausthaler.
I used to always have a six pack of Clausthaler in the fridge just to have one after work. Slakes that beer thirst beautifully, and the skunkiness replaces a bit of what is lost by not having alcohol in it. Highly recommended.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is the point of a non alcoholic beer?

Not sure what category this falls under. It supposedly tastes like beer and Sprite.

Just a quick comparison from google...
Quote:
If we say six beers at 6.0% alcohol will get you drunk, then it would take you 120 non-alcoholic beers to get drunk.
.3% x20= 6%
6x20= 120
|
So assuming most of us aren't pussies and take more than 6 beers to get drunk, all you have to do is pound back a couple hundred non-aloholic brewskies and you'er all set.
