Default HDTV Antenna...

Would the item below work with a standard CRTV ??

I have a bunch of projects to finish in my garage and I would like to watch hockey at the same time...

I thought I read somewhere that CBC broadcasts HDTV over the air in Calgary.

I do not have cable or an extra receiver in my garage presently...

Thanks in advance...

You can receive HDTV over the air, but your tv requires a digital tuner to view it, which I doubt your CRtv has. You can by a digital to analogue converter box which will set you back about 80 bucks though.

You may be able to pick up a used Bell 6100 or 9200 box. These receivers have been discontinued by Bell TV, won't work for Bell reception anymore and can be found cheap or maybe free but do have OTA digital reception. The 9200 will even provide PVR features but the downside is that they have to be aimed at a Bell Satellite, so you'd need a dish as well.

How big is the old CR TV you plan on using? For the price of the box, you buy a 30 inch HDTV off Kiji pretty easily.

Edit:

You can buy a brand new 24 inch for $168

Won't be the best quality, but will 1000x better than a digital signal being converted and fed into a CRTV. The signal you get straight from the HDTV antaenna is actually top notch. Don't know why you'd display it on anything but an HDTV capable TV.

Yeah, I would not invest any money into buying any kind of converters for that. If you are considering watching on a 12 inch TV, then you're much better off putting the money into a new TV. Buy used. There are many smaller HDTVs going for cheap. Example:

You can buy a new 19inch for just over $100 at Tiger Direct as well.

Most tech stores will sell them ( I believe I bought my mom one from future shop). Don't try to ask the salesman about them though, most will have no idea what you're talking about.

I remember trying to explain hd over-the-air to a number of them. Most just looked at me awkwardly and accused me of trying to steal tv.

You know what, I have a converter box here just collecting dust. If you can meet me downtown during the week, you can have it.

PM me and let me know.

Only if it's one of the older high definition models.
