Default Windows Server Upgrade Question

From everything I have read you cannot/should not do an in-place upgrade from x32 2003 - x64 2008

I am just looking for some confirmation?

x32 2003/R2 to x64 2008/R2

Thanks

We did SBS 2003 to SBS 2008 via migration from old machine to new machine , no problems other than some best practices compliance stuff.

I wouldn't assume the same mileage on in-place upgrade though, since they are obviously different processes.

You should consider a new machine or a Swing migration maybe to get what you are wanting but it is not something I have ever thought about, so obviously never researched.

I have done inplace upgrades before but never from x32 to x64, I never thought it was doable for any version of Microsoft OS(s)

Why upgrade at all if 2003 meets current needs?

There is no upgrade path, by the way.

mykalberta, this is exactly what you're looking for:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...(v=ws.10).aspx

Unsupported Upgrade Scenarios
  • Cross-architecture in-place upgrades (for example, x86 to x64) are not supported.
