Default Javascript Book Recommendations

I seek to make one of my minions a better javascript developer. It's now been 7 or 8 years since I read a textbook on the topic and I'd love some more current recommendations.

A book with a jQuery focus is ok, provided it doesn't pretend the library isn't built on something bigger. The end goal is to get him to an intermediate plugin author level.

Thanks CP web nerds!

I asked one of our script kiddies, he suggested:

Javascript - The Good Parts by Douglas Crockford (http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596517748.do)

Pretty much anything by Crockford is apparently good.

Crockford is good for some fundamentals on JS.

jQuery in Action is a good way to be introduced to jQuery. Though it is now a few jQuery versions behind, I think it is relevant enough as an introduction to the framework to still be of use. It isn't much good as a reference on the API anyways, and the online API docs should have that covered.

Check out Pragmatic Guide to JavaScript

As far as learning jQuery, once he understands the nuances of java script, simply doing the tutorials should be sufficient to get a decent handle on things.
