Default Apple TV Help

Wondering if someone can help me out. I just got Apple Tv and got it all setup, but I can't for the life of me get my home computer to share with it. I followed the setup instructions, nothing. reinstalled itunes, reset apple tv reset my modem and I just cant get it to work. When i select computers on my tv, it just says to turn on home sharing in itunes, which I have done many times and tried turning it off and on as well. I've googled the problem and can't tried a few things recommended but nothing is working.

Check to make sure iTunes and your ATV are both updated to latest versions.

Make sure the account info for both your apple TV and itunes is the same.

Make sure iTunes isn't currently throwing an error "Can't sync to this phone"

All software is up to date, same apple id being used (even signed out and back in on both) and no error messages in itunes. Thanks for the reply though. this is super annoying

Tried this?

Just solved mine by resetting the Apple TV 2 pressing the menu button and down at the same time until the LED blinks rapidly according to this KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3180

Are you running iTunes on a Mac or PC? Have you ever used Home Sharing before? If so, does Home Sharing work with any of your other devices?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling Bonjour?

In a nutshell, Bonjour is Apple's service discovery service. One of the services it handles is iTunes home sharing.

First thing I would try is to disable your Windows firewall and see if that works. There are a couple of ports that need to be opened but normally, this is handled seamlessly.

If this doesn't work, then make sure the Bonjour service is running. Use the run command and type 'services.msc'. You will see a list of services that your machine has and make sure that the status of Bonjour is 'started' or something like that. If it's not, then start that service.

If this doesn't work, then go to the Programs under control panel and try repairing Bonjour.

Last resort with Bonjour, remove and reinstall.

EDIT: Wow, just googled this and it looks like a lot of people are experiencing the same problems as you are. Most seem to think it all started when they upgraded to iTunes 10.6.1. This must be an intermittent issue as I am also on 10.6.1 and I don't have this problem. If this an iTunes issue, I hope Apple comes up with a patch pretty quick.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried everything there, and still not working. this might be a dumb question, but would it be worth me installing a previous version of itunes, since I am running 10.6.1 right now?

Is iTunes open and running? I had a similar problem where I had sharing setup properly, but unless iTunes was actually launched, nothing from my computer would be shared with my other devices.

Been tooling around with my new Apple TV (finally bit the bullet).

Works great except for the streaming from my PC desktop (Win7, latest iTunes, etc). For some reason, I only get about 5-10 minutes before whatever I'm streaming abruptly ends and the Apple TV returns to the main menu. Frustrating as all get out.

Anyone experienced this? For a while I thought it might be my PC going to sleep, but changing the power settings to stay awake indefinitely didn't help.

Is there anything in your windows firewall settings that isn't allowing itunes to accept incoming connections? I have to turn that on everytime I load up iTunes or it won't actually share anything.

Is the Apple TV connected wired or wireless? Off hand I would think it is an router problem
