Regency Palace in Dragon City Mall is pretty good also. Large selection.

I'm also curious. I had some kick-ass hot pot in Chengdu and would love to try some local stuff.

Apparently there is an "all you can eat hot pot" in the restaurant in the basement of the Chinese Cultural Centre (insert Chicken on the Way joke here).

Never tried it myself though (not a hot pot fan personally)

Yeah, the basement of the Cultural Center seems to be the hot pot place...as far as I could tell since everyone there was from mainland China, that should be a mark of authenticity? Or maybe just cheapness?

They had beef, chicken, and lamb! And the dipping sauce station had tons of selection. I loaded up confections of XO Sauce and Satay and Chinese Mustard on parsley with peanut sauce on the side.

there's another all u can eat hot pot place on center street just north of the centre street bridge. The restaurant is called Happy Hill or something.

The best hot pot is home made. Just buy all the meat, veggies, fish balls, seafood, you want at T&T, one of those butane stoves, and a hot pot-pot ($20).

Best meal for cold days like this.

That place will leave your toilet bowl hotter.

Yeah, just make it at home but it's not exactly all you can eat.

I've been to the cultural centre one and it costs $23 but its Hot Pot BUffet. They had 10 kinds of soups for the hot pot itself. Also had free ice tea/lemonade and other cold chinese teas.

But it was amazing, I kept bringing back heaping plates full of frozen lamb!!

Basically it's a big boiling pot of water with some spices and stuff and in it like soup. You take raw ingredients including vegetables, thinly sliced meat, fish balls etc. and put them in the pot to quickly boil them. Then you take the stuff out, dip it in a sauce that you like and eat it.

Hot pot is so simple, but awesome. I eat hot pot once or twice a week in the winter here. It's delicious, social, healthy and you can take as long as you want to have dinner.

eg:

Edit: To add, the pot is kept hot and boiling throughout the meal with a range built into the table or hot coals.

It is, the broth/soup almost always turns out amazing by the end too. It's a lot of fun if you can get a group of friends/family to go.

Personally, I am Chinese but I've never really understood or enjoyed hot pot as much as some people seem to. I certainly don't go out of my way to eat it. It seems more like a social cooking sort of deal which can be fun with the right group.

The Cultural Centre place is owned by a family client though, so we get free drinks (Sing Tao baby) and piles of meat brought to our table.

I'm usually too full to drink the soup at the end. Nobody mentioned that the pot is split with both sides having different broth usually, like one spicy, etc.

then save some room for some noodles (i prefer udon) which soaks up the broth

Anyone a fan of using raw egg as a dipping sauce? (added to soy sauce, satay paste, sesame oil, chilli sauce, and a touch of sugar)

the 'real' hot pot (as tried in Chengdu) doesnt use a broth - it uses boiling oil full of frigging evil spices. Some places there have a split pot, one side oil, the other side broth to keep everyone happy. I love hot pot, but it takes a good 2-3 days for my digestive system to recover.....
