Teacher (St. Albert) busted for showing 7th graders mature video
Quote:
A St. Albert junior high instructor is in hot water after playing an inappropriate Internet video about sexual harassment to a group of Grade 7 students
During a Language Arts class, the teacher in question showed students -- some of them 12 years old -- an adult-access YouTube video on sexual harassment.
The spoof video features vulgar sexual references in almost every scene, including one of the milder scenes that shows co-workers discussing a poster while a sex toy moves on the table behind them.

What the heck is that teacher doing even showing 7th graders a video like that? I don't mean the supposed graphic content, but just the subject matter over-all. Most 7th graders haven't even hit puberty yet, most could easily pass for 5th graders. Little young to even be trying to grasp those concepts at that age.
I wonder what school that was, I live in St. Albert.

Was that supposed to be a comedy lol? WTF did I just watch? Why would anyone show that video, to any age group, never mind a bunch of 7th graders.

Yes, the video is a "spoof" of real sexual harassment educational videos. So the showing of it to 12 yr olds is wrong on a couple of levels. (IMHO)

Certainly possible. Though would expect teachers to be showing in class?

Lol I remember seeing this video before. I do agree though, not sure what the teacher was doing showing this to a bunch of kids. Was he trying to be young and hip to them? Stupid career move on his part IMO.

I job shadowed teachers for 12 years. And let me tell you, they are all lazy sacks of dren. They probably showed this video so they could manage their hockey pool or go to the staff room and complain for even more time off. Fracking teachers.

From the article (which I've now added the link for) says it was Language Arts.

Most 7th graders these days have probably done way saucier stuff than this.
I remember our 7th great teacher showing Boyz N the Hood (uncut or edited) way back when....we thought it was the most awesome thing ever.

I was 13 in grade 7 so... then it's perfectly fine.
If a PG-13/14A movie is allowed to say ####, why can't they see a video in school that says it?

I am sure there are a lot more legitimate/acceptable videos that he could have shown. Seems awfully weird and suspicious that he chose this one.

Haha that's awesome Table 5, man have times changed. I can't even imagine what would happen if you tried showing 7th graders a movie like Boyz N tha Hood now, especially in the bubble that is St. Albert.
Did my first practicum at a junior high in St. Albert, and for my grade 8's in SS we were doing the Aztec unit. I ran it by my mentor teacher if I could show them a couple short clips from Apocalypto (I know its supposedly Mayan, but it wasn't exactly accurate) - none of the gruesome scenes of course, just a couple scenes that show off the culture - and she practically yelled at me how unacceptable that was. Safe to say it was a no-go.
You really have to be careful what you show kids these days in the classroom (and make sure the parents know about it too), if you like working anyway. Doesn't matter if 29 out of 30 kids in your class think its fine. All it takes is one kid and you're done.
