Default Dual monitor issue

so on my machine at work i like to have Outlook maximized and available all the time. but if i step away from my machine for more than 10 minutes and the displays turn off, when i come back Outlook and anything else i had open on the right monitor gets shifted to the left one and i have to always it back to the right one. both monitors are plugged in via DVI cables to my docking station so there shouldn't be any delay from one to the other. for the life of me i can't figure this out and google has been no help

Basically when a monitor is disconnected, it moves everything from that monitor back to the main monitor. My guess is that your dock is doing the disconnecting when it turns the monitor off when it locks. I suggest, and I am not sure if this will help, but try changing the "Turn my monitor off after x time" setting in your power options so that it is longer than your lock, but not always on (to something like an hour), then your monitor will stay on while your PC gets locked (presumably by Group Policy).

It is possible that GP also has control over this setting, so you might need to sweet talk someone into changing that for you to test it, if it seriously impacting your productivity.

well i'm the guy that has control over group policy settings so no issue there. i'll try extending the time until the monitors turn off a bit and see what happens

I wonder if any dual monitor tools would help you. I did a trial of ultramon, and it was pretty good. No idea if it would fix this problem though..
