Default iPhone default backup?

A friend sent this email around to some friends. I told him I know some smart computer guys who may have a solution. Can anyone help him?

I recently updated the operating system in my iPhone. After the upgrade, the first time I connected the iPhone to my computer for a sync, the process hung up everything and I had to do a 'hard' boot. Now every time I try to synchronize the iPhone with my computer I receive the following message -

iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone.
Delete the backup for this iphone, then try again.

I want to delete the backup for my phone and have searched but can't find where the backup is stored on my computer. Do any of you know where the default backup location is?

Photon, I'll ask him what OS he uses. Madman, I'll provide what you wrote to my friend. I'll repost once I know more. Thanks for the info, guys.

Maybe I'm missing something here. Can't you see all the backups on iTunes under preferences? I think it's under Preferences>devices. You can see all your device backups and delete them if you wish.

Okay, my friend says he has Windows 7 on his computer and the current OS on his iPhone. Any help appreciated as he still hasn't found a solution. I've provided him with the advice above but haven't heard back yet as to if it worked. Thanks.

CKPThunder is right, you can do it right from within iTunes.

Or if not, then the location of the backups is

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Where USERNAME is the name he logs into the computer with.

AppData is a hidden folder by default so he may have to make hidden folders visible first.

In that folder will be all the backups, deleting them will delete ALL backups, so make sure that that's what he really wants to do.

or just type

%appdata%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

saves needing to enable hidden files
