I dont feel like searching so shoot me!!!

I'm currently downloading a movie and supposedly have high speed internet

I am currently downloading at an average of 1mb/s and uploading at 50 kb/s

This seams REALLY SLOW for payin for high speed internet.

Thought and comments appreciated

I would say...you get what you pay for. iTunes rentals and purchases come down awfully quick these days on Broadband 100

I assume you are torrenting? Can't hold them to promised speeds there. I have rarely ever got over 1MB/s ever.

If you think you are not getting good speeds, go to shaw speed test, and speakeasy speed test.

Torrenting will never give you a good idea of your speeds ever.

REally, so 1mb/s is normal when downloading torrents? What can I download to check my speeds?

Yeah torrenting and getting 1MB/s down is actually really good.

Nothing at all to complain about.

my torrent average is around the 1mb area, i have had it hit 1900kb/s though but pretty rare.

As for uploads your torrent client may be throttle upload due to the automatic settings.

A lot of people seem to have this issue because they don't know how torrents work.

It's p2p. You are connecting to some (many) people who are uploading parts of the file and downloading other parts of the file (peers), or people who have the whole file and are just uploading (seeders). Your speed will depend on how many people you can connect too (which in turn is dependent on how many connections peers and seeders are accepting), how capable your router is at handling a large number of connections, and the speed the people you've connected to are uploading at. Finally, some isps (rogers) will jam the hell out of p2p connections of any kind.

If you want to test it, find a hyper-popular torrent with a large number of high-bandwidth seeders and see what you get.
