Starcraft II CP Tournament Round 2

As was stated in the main SCII thread, there's some interest in trying another tournament.

PLAYOFFS STARTED

Thoughts on lay out (up to discussion and vote):
-2 pools, single round robin play, top half of each goes to a 'vets' bracket, bottom half 'rookies' bracket. This allows for some sort of seeding, as well as to sort out skill a bit more fairly.
-Brackets double elimination (or single), think double would be more fun/fair.
-Maps, I think MLG, could also do GSL or even ladder if people are up for it. Possibly allow 1 map veto per match (if people want, could complicate things a bit).
-I'd propose best of 3 for round robin, and all the way up till the finals (best of 5 maybe?), unless people prefer best of 1.

-Alternately we could do an MLG style style, disregarding open bracket, basically going straight to the championship...but again that may a little complex.

Post your race!! Also please post on format (bigger pool play like last tourney, bracket with/without pool, MLG or something else..), Map selection (MLG/GSL/ladder/other), best of 1/3/5 etc, or anything else I may have forgetten.

Once I get names/numbers we can figure out groups, matchups, maps etc.

Edit 1:
-Maps (all MLG versions): Dual Sight, Metalopolis, Shakuras Plateau, Shattered Temple, Tal'darim Altar LE, iCCup Testbug, Xel Naga Caverns.
-Probably lean towards pool/bracket system, Bo3.
-If we can, I'll set up groups/maps/matchups and we can start the tourney Saturday.
-In game chat channel is CPuck!

-We got our 8, I'll make the groups, map selections/matches and we can start ASAP!
-Due to only 8 players, we'll do a single winners bracket, double elimination. We'll cross over seeds (1v4, 2v3).
-I'll post randomly generated maps for each match. For the maps, and for the pool, I used an 7 and 8 sided virtual dice and just went down the list (so for instance I was first, and rolled a 7, which put me in the '7' slot, 3rd slot in pool B)...hope that's fair enough!

Maps: MLG and GSL maps are better than ladder maps for sure. 1 veto from each player is pretty good as well.

I'd say best of 3 rounds at least. Near the end, we can have best of 5 rounds for finals, semi, etc.

I like the pool idea but we have to keep it short. Last time we had the CP tourney, people lost interest over time so we should try to have the tournament done in about a week. I think we should start the pool this weekend and have the semi, final (and maybe quarter depending on how many people signs up) next weekend and have couple games during the week.

People lost interest after accusations of cheating. And for that very reason I am not going to play, I am instead going to be an impartial referee for games with no stake in who wins or loses.

I agree with trying to speed thing along, if we can get 8 by Friday we can start it up.
If we get 8, and do a single round robin in 2 groups, that's only 3 games each, then semis (top and bottom brackets), and finals/bronze medal match...only 5 games for each person.

Blaster I don't think people lost interests because of cheating, I think it was more the length. For me that's what did it in, too many people who weren't committed and you could never get your games done. With a smaller group, I don't think there'll be as much a worry with cheating etc...but if you really don't wanna play I'll take you off.

Pool play and double elimination sounds good to me. How are we doing maps for bo3? Loser picks?

I've never used it before but http://challonge.com seems like a good site for keeping track of the brackets. It'd be useful to see who hasn't played their matches or who we're waiting on.

I tried using Challonge, but it won't allow for 2 pools, or pool into bracket. We could use it for the brackets if we wanted. I was just going to create a google doc, kind of like this.

I was able to play all my games before being eliminated during Blaster's tourney. But during that tourney, I found the hardest part was getting a hold of your partner, with all of our schedules being so different. I fear the same issue this time around, even with the smaller group. And for that, I'm out this time.

If we REALLY wanted to go full out, we should just pick a day at an internet cafe, order up some food and just have at it.

I talked to people. It was the accusation of cheating that really killed the fun of it. It stopped being fun, so the people who knew they had no chance just stopped playing in the later rounds.
