Default A Mattress/Bed Thread

Need to buy a new mattress/bed set for the first time in my life. I'm 6'0 and have slept on a twin/double my whole life. Enough is enough. Time to upgrade to a queen. Want to go king but my room probably can't handle it. Also my box-spring is broken... you don't wanna know. And I have been waking up with a sore lower back every morning. I sleep on my stomach and even tried using a body pillow but it's not helping much.

So my question is.. where is a good place to buy a new mattress/bed set? And deals that anyone knows of? Any recommendations for the way I sleep? Is memory foam worth it?

Really appreciate any and all comments. Thanks guys.

my wife and i got our bed at the bay

she's awesome at finding deals and got us a smokin' one on the bed/box-spring

there are so many sales around now that you should be able to grind a bit to get a better deal.... even if it's already on sale.

good luck

Sleep Country Canada. Why buy a mattress anywhere else?

Lots of good deals out there. Mattress salespeople (like everyone else) are hurting a bit for sales and are willing to bend quite a bit on price. Shop around, get written prices, take those to other places and ask them to match/beat on comparable beds.

Also keep in mind the markup on mattresses is huge; on a set that retails for $1200+ the store pays about 1/2 that. Plus salespeople make 10-13% commission so make them work for it.

Go to a Sleep Country store. They have a boatload of mattresses set up for you to try, from the extra cheapo's to the $5000. Sleep around. See what you like. Don't let the salesperson get pushy. You'd be surprised how many different sorts of mattresses there are, and how they feel differently from each other. Once you've done that, think about a price range, and look around for something you like in that range.

Just buy a king and make it fit, you will regret buying anything else.

Last week, I actually bought a memory foam Tempur-Pedic from Sleep Country. It's great.

*sigh* I know. It's just I have a bedroom music studio in here too so I really don't think I have the room. I have a double now and it's tight.

We pulled the trigger on a bed at the Bay on Monday. They had a 60% off sale a week or two ago that they still honored even though it was over. Plus if you sign up for a Bay card you get an additional 10% off. We bought one of those bowling ball mattresses. It gets delivered on Saturday.

The Bay had better prices than Sleep Country.

Another place that had insane deals was beside The Brick on MacLeod and Southland. They are going out of business and blowing mattresses out. You should really go there. I would've bought one but wanted to be able to do a comfort exchange if necessary. They had the best prices over the Bay, Sears, The Brick, and Sleep Country. Can't remember the name of the store but they literally share a building with The Brick.

How do you know he's not 80?

I suppose there aren't many 80 year olds on the internet though...

Can't it be both?

Yeah, the mattress can have that much of an impact. Fortunately I had the "let her pick the mattress" lesson on a $300 bed; and now I know better.

One option; go over to Halstead and have them show you what they can do with foam. It may be possible to get something to put over the mattress; or even between the mattress and box spring. They can even do sides of the bed; giving you something softer and your wife harder.

And see- I gave you some advice without resorting to a comment that your wife likes it harder than you are able to provide.

Slept on a piece of foam in Germany and it was heavenly.
Was it the "black series?"

We have a pricey Kingsdown and it just doesn't work for either of us. Some nights I head to the spare bedroom to sleep on my piece of crap futon from 20 years ago for a more comfortable sleep.

I think it is the mattress (or at least I hope it is) - I am not sure what we will buy next.

We bought a king about a year ago and it is the best purchase I ever made. Our room is small so it is tight - but that's OK. If there is anyway to get a king in there do it.

We bought ours at Leons. Normally I hate those type of stores but their pricing was good and we had a salesman that we enjoy dealing with (Paul).

Check these guys out http://www.krobel.com/ I've bought 2 mattresses from them, my parents have bought several, and a bunch of friends. Best deal in town.

I have been told by some why even bother with boxspring when you can get a mattress and bed frame and thats it. From what I can tell from limited experience its comfortable just very low to the ground.
