Default Alley Burger Food Truck!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Alley-...530215?sk=wall

Alley burger is starting a food truck in July.

Hopefully this leads to more food trucks and street food in calgary!

I can't wait until the day we get a taco truck.

Quote:
An alert would be sent out through Twitter and Facebook, and fans of the restaurant would flock down for the late-night dinner.

The same system will be followed with the food truck as exact times and locations for lunch hour service will be sent out through social media.

In addition to the Alley Burger, new special burgers, hand-cut duck-fat fried potatoes, and poutine will be served.

Hopefully they don't get shut down as they're starting to be out here. Once they catch on the brick and mortar stores start complaining and the crackdown begins.

There is a Mexican food truck. Or at least there was. It stopped near my office a couple of times last year.

Hand cut duck fat fried potatoes? Sounds expensive, also sound that I must try at least once.

Taco trucks are called roach coaches for a reason.

I was never able to try an alley burger before, so i am looking forward to this. Truck will be going around the downtown core during monday to friday, and possibly up on 17th during the weekends. The truck should be ready in about 2 weeks.

Thought you guys might be interested in this link for even more info.

As me_dennis mentioned, there are a few food tucks launching this week and on Thursday Afternoon. There will be a mini food truck festival at 11:00am on Stephen Avenue. Also, for those curious, the city and Downtown Calgary are fully behind the Food Truck movement and is using this as a big pilot project. Which hopefuly means that this isn't just a one off that will be crushed by bureaucracy.

Not quite:

Residential areas, select parking lots and a few “no-roll zones,” including spots in front of established restaurants and along 17th Avenue S.W. (at the request of the Uptown 17 Business Revitalization Zone, which didn’t return calls for a comment) are off limits.
Quote:

The Calgary Downtown Association, which covers Barclay Mall and Stephen Avenue, will not be open to trucks, although Stephen Avenue is open to push-cart vendors, such as Sidewalk Citizen Bakery’s bike cart.

So where are these food trucks going to be parked? Anywhere downtown that would be convenient to hit for lunch?

I've been working on this out of the Mayor's Office. Nenshi is really keen on food trucks so over the past 4 weeks or so have been working very closely with the various City departments, the food truck vendors as well as the business revitalization zones in order to make it happen.

The biggest barrier previously was that trucks are prohibited under a by-law to vend from a public street. So through this pilot we have developed a special street use permit that will now allow them to do so. We've also been trying to make it simpler to obtain all the necessary lisence and inspections (health, fire etc). Everyone has been amazingly co-operative.

There are some common sense restrictions the trucks will have to adhere to as far as location. For instance no selling in front of a restaurant, in residential streets and so on. 17th ave brz doesn't want them for a few reasons including the high concentration of restaurants on that street (similar with Stephen Ave). There are some other specific restrictions of blocks in Inglewood and a few other places - but they will have many, many options on public streets throughout the city.

We also got approval from The Calgary Parking Authority as well as Calgary Transit, so trucks will be able to vend at Green P parking lots and LRT park and rides if they think there is a market there.

Lots of really quality vendors have emerged. A good 8 or 9 trucks already. If all goes well, we'll be looking to make permanent by-law changes.

Occupational licensing is one of the worst, absolutely most garbage things that a city government can do. Good on Nenshi.
