Jerusalem rabbis 'condemn dog to death by stoning'
This is utterly insane, awful, horrible, incredible, outrageous, ludicrous, fataing crazy, etc..
Quote:
A Jewish rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a stray dog it feared was the reincarnation of a lawyer who insulted its judges, reports say.
The dog entered the Jerusalem financial court several weeks ago and would not leave, reports Israeli website Ynet.
It reminded a judge of a curse passed on a now deceased secular lawyer about 20 years ago, when judges bid his spirit to enter the body of a dog.

I had no idea reincarnation was belief in Judaism.
I can assure you though, most Jews are probably euqally or more outraged at something this stupid.

What, if not religion, could be used to justify such behavior?

Silly rabbis.
They're making the assumption that lawyers have souls.

I'm surprised they didn't just send it to Gaza with the rest of the Jewish setters.

I don't know how accurate any of this story is. For starters, any so called Rabbinical court in Israel has no jurisdiction on anything regarding dogs, in particular some type of financial court. A Rabbinical court may have lots to say about kosher foods or things like that, but nothing about legit legal matters.
As far as I know, there is also no way they are talking about reincarnation, especially some dumb story about a lawyer and his spirit or whatever.
Quite possibly there are some kooks in Israel who pray to dogs, or whatever this story is about. There is nothing in this article that would not be condemned within Israel for sheer stupidity by all involved.
Sounds like a bunch of BS to me! The story is not covered anywhere, except distributed copies of the BBC article.

I don't think it is. If the story is real it must be a new development.

The BBC news channel is extremely trustworthy and usually unbiased. The website, however, always has an extemely left slant. Anything said about Israel shoudl be taken with a grain of salt.

Jews most certainly do not believe that people get reincarnated as dogs.
Apparently there is some truth to this story though. An old rabbi asked some kids to shoo away a dog that was causing a nuisance by throwing rocks at it.
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...082843,00.html
A anti-religious Jewish newspaper wrote a tongue in cheek article about it, with a purposely shocking headline. Everyone with anti-Israel/Jewish agenda has now picked up the story as truth.
This is a case of a grumpy old man mistreting a stray dog and has little to do with Judaism.
