Just saw a new banner up beside the Canadian Bible Society and the donair shop on the 100 block SW of 7th ave for a automated parking facility.
I think it is long overdue for the rejuvanation of the block and it will be kind of neat to see the building get built and the parking lot in action. according to the website they are going to try to make the alley between 7th ave and Stephen Ave pedestrian friendly.

Has it actually started constructions or are they waiting for investors? I will believe it when I see it personally.

Construction hasn't started yet, realistically, perhaps next year. I have no doubts that this project will go ahead once money is in place. It just takes a while to get money together for something like this.
I believe that the Land Use change got approved at council a couple of weeks ago.
These are good and bad - used quite a few similar things while in Seoul.
Good - effective use of area and no driving around hoping to find a spot.
Bad - depending on the set up they can take a fair bit to get your car out (how many access points/people trying to get out)
Normally I would say why bother trying to save some dumpy buildings, but this is a heritage/arts program I can get behind. One that hopes to be self funding in the future with some initial investment today.

They are only dumpy, because they have been neglected for so long. They are nice buildings, buildings of an age that we don't have many left of in this town.

There is a residential building in Vancouver called Jameson House, built by Bosa, that will be offering the same type of parking. Some developers are now offering new condos for sale that don't come with a parking stall.
What happens when the parkade breaks? I'd love to see a few dozen people in business suits all standing in front going crazy
I won't say it'll never break, but they are built pretty well, and never have humans inside to interfere. It's not really a complicated system that would need significant & constant maintenance. Basically just some warehousing racks, and a couple of elevating devices, + automation.
How often do automated devices in factories break down, my guess is not a lot.
Whatever gets rid of the riff raff that hang out in front of those buildings is just fine with me. It doesn't really feel safe after rush hour at the train station across the street, and often you get accosted by these bums for money or they deal rock right there with commuters present.
