The shrimp/vegetable sauce is a ginger sauce.
The closest I've found to their steak sauce was a similar looking sauce at Sunterra market. It didn't taste as good but was close.
But yeah I know what you mean, I could drink that steak sauce...

I've tried to track this down too a few years ago and failed.... pretty sure the steak sauce would be awesome on anything.

You can buy the steak sauce at Bonzai, and if you google it, you can find recipes on how to make it.

The ginger sauce you're talking about is the one they give you in the little tray, I always pour that one on my rice, it's delicious.
I'm talking about the bright yellow one they spoon over the lobster and shrimp while it's on the grill. When I asked the guy, he said it was "yummy yummy sauce". Pretty sure that's not the real name.

I have done alot of research on this. I tried making this and its very close.
Sesame sauce for meat
Categories: Japanese Sauces
Yield: 1 Servings
½ c Sesame seeds; white
2 ts English mustard; powdered
2/3 c Soy sauce
2/3 c Vegetable oil
1 tb Garlic; freshly ground
½ c Onion; freshly ground
Bake the white sesame seeds until golden brown. To make the mustard, add water to it gradually until it reaches the consistency of very thick cream, stirring well and breaking up all lumps. This should stand 10 minutes to develop its full flavor. Mix the mustard with the soy sauce and the vegetable oil. Place in blender. Add garlic and onion. Blend
until smooth and creamy

Oh sorry, you're right I misread that.
I also tried that sauce the last time I was there and was told it was "Yummy Yummy Japan sauce".
It was good, but it was no steak sauce

That recipe is it. Make sure you don't over roast the sesame seeds is the secret. I would use a pan instead.

For anyone who is curious - here is the recipe for the yellow shrimp sauce I was asking about. I went to Japanese Village a couple weeks ago and asked the chef what it was, then found the recipe online.
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 1/2 tablespoons white miso paste
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- salt to taste
- 1 pinch freshly ground white pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon grated yuzu (Japanese orange), lemon or lime peel
Directions
- In a medium bowl, beat egg yolks and lemon juice with a wooden spoon. Beat in vegetable oil a few drops at a time, beating well after each addition until the mixture begins to emulsify. When all of the oil has been incorporated, stir in the miso, salt, white pepper and grated yuzu. Refrigerate in a squeeze bottle for convenient application.

edit: mykalberta - thats the one for me, I reduce the soy sauce and onion
I found the actual recipe online a while back
1/2 cup veg oil
1/2 Cup roasted sesame seeds
1/3 cup soy sauce (Kikkoman)
2-3 tbl spoon onion (Diced)
1tsp garlic
1 tsp mustard powder
1) Mix mustard powder with about 1 tsp water until smooth
2) dice onion
3) chop garlic
4) roast sesame seeds for a minute or two until slightly toasted
5) Throw everything into blender and liquify
If it comes out too thick add a little water while blending.
This is all it is folks and i've been making it for around 5 years now. There is no egg, or mayo or any of that nonsense

Are you sure that is the "real" recipe? My ex used to work there and had all the recipes (salad dressing, ginger, and steak sauce) and i recall the primary ingredient for the steak sauce being egg yolks, Unfortunately that ship has sailed and i cant bring myself to make the call of shame for the secret recipes.

Again, mine above is not the steak sauce recipe, or the ginger sauce recipe. It's a different sauce altogether, a nuclear yellow-looking sauce that they put on the shrimp/lobster while it's still on the grill.

I bought some of that sauce from Japanese village, how long do you think it would keep in the fridge for?
I'll have to get the wife to try out that recipe

It's only good for a couple weeks if I recall. Kind of annoying, but there aren't any preservatives in it.
You can buy it at a place on Southland and Macleod
