In lieu of the $6.1 billion deficit, does anyone think its a good idea to future-proof the SW Ring Road portion for a 16 lane monster in 40 years at the cost of over $1 billion?

It is estimated that shortening the bridge structures represents an approximate savings of $452 million. This coupled with shortened ramps and a smaller overall roadway footprint, eliminating the provisions for a second ring road could result in an overall cost savings approaching $1 billion;
I don't think it's necessary. In the future, I've been told we will all have flying self driving cars. Where we're going, we won't need roads.
In all seriousness, I'd rather that money go to transit pojects, I think we could get far more useful value.
Yeah twenty or thirty years out you may be able to fit fifty times more self driving autos on the same road that people drivers now use so maybe that won't even be needed.

Not if people keep getting fatter and fatter. Most people these days physically cannot fit into a car more than 10 years fold. Cars in 20-30 years are going to be the size of yachts today.
I noticed that they recently covered up all the Highway 1A decals for the 17 Avenue exit. Why on earth would they waste the time, money and effort to do that for at least seven or eight signs?
thanks. I think that's pretty much around the deadline to have it done or the land reverts back to the Tsuu Tina.
I was hoping for something more specific for different areas of the RR, but I suppose they might not be doing the work in pieces like that. It all might come online at the same time.

Well, the remaining unbuilt portion of the Calgary Ring Road has actually been split into the Southwest Calgary Ring Road and the West Calgary Ring Road. If you were hoping to be using the ring road to go north then you should be aware that no timeline has been set for that portion. I imagine that construction would not begin until 2022.
I dont think discovery is part of the SW portion anymore. Didn't they split it out so the SW portion is just from 22x connection to SE through Tsuu Tina reserve to highway 8? highway 8 to NW portion is now the west calgary ring road?
EDIT: also, basic question: what's the proposed total length for the whole road?
