Super weird unless the players asked to be bought out? Arizona needs bodies and cap so this doesn’t make any sense. I suspect Kassian finds his way back to Edmonton for the minimum

Just wondering... does that mean that they can no longer be used as a 3rd party to take on salary in trades ?
I seem to recall that a team can only have 3 "buyout" spots... by doing this Arizona has filled those up. Seeing as any other played they retained salary on could then be bought out by their current team (like Van just did to them), that would bring them out of compliance.
So, until Kassian or Nemeth buyouts are off the books, are they unable to take on salary? Or am I just imagining things... ??

Is there not some rule about the max % of your overall cap hit that can be buy-out & LTI Retired? If not, there should be.

Someone has to stand up and defend all those LTIR contracts.

I believe you're thinking of cap retention slots.

Maybe the Oilers can re-sign Kassian and trade him with Yamo and Foegle to the Flyers for Konecny.

This makes no sense, unless they actually are trying to be more competitive of a team this year.

They have an internal cap and need to re-sign guys like Maccelli, McBain, and Ingram. Makes sense to me.

Kassian is still in the league?
Just looked...he had 2 points in 51 games in Arizona. With all the off ice issues he brings, Arizona must see having him off the team as a positive.

You know it’s the end of the line when you’re bought out by the Coyotes.

I have heard that there is some NHL pressure to make sure that they are a more traditional performance based franchise. Things for too long have become a dumpster down there. How many retired players, injured players, LTIR, insurance payments, former AHL guy's and more can you have playing in a 4800 person rink?
The NHL may be putting the screws to ownership to shape up for the probable relocation somewhere. The last thing the NHL would want is for a relocation disaster to go to another market when you have Vegas and Seattle being very competitive very quickly and growing the game locally and business wise.
