20/21 ski/snowboard thread
What’s everyone's plans?
Mountain Collective for me.
Louise has replaced the iconic, platter with a HSQ. This opens up West Bowl to the masses, and facilitated a 2km ski out.. (no more bushwhacking Star Wars)

Any idea what the ski hills are going to look like with COVID? Hard to commit IMO before knowing that.

My kids are in a snowboard club and go three times per week. I'm really hoping that goes ahead with COVID. Decision hasn't been made yet.
I think I'm just going to get Louise cards for the family. Pretty versatile and good savings. Low financial risk, too, if COVID bogarts the season again.

Last time I did Star Wars I wrapped myself around a tree, so ya, I'm to old.
Watching the video I'm not sure I understand the chair. It looks like it goes from Top of the World to the top of Whithorn? Does that mean they leave the platter as well?

Will I get any credit for my Sunshine and Louise cards that I only got partial use out of last year?

I was down in Colorado for work a bunch last year so did a Mountain Collective. Got really good value out of it and really it only takes a single international trip to justify it over the local discount cards.
That said I'm sticking with the Louise/RCR cards this year though just because I imagine there will be more days close to home. Plus more flexibility if the season gets cancelled, if things become a gong show with reservations, etc etc.

I shared this in the gear grinder, but likely my pals and I will do just do a single night a week again, Taco Tuesday.

Of course, less busy, which I appreciate — no waiting to drop into the ramp farm, and stunt ditch.
But more money for less ? GMG.

I always pass at Louise, and especially given that they're giving a discount to last year's season pass holders due to covid, I'll be doing that again. They didn't even have to do that, it wasn't their fault they got shut down.

There are a lot of rumblings down at Fernie regarding covid protocols. Basically it's going to be very similar to this from what I hear.

I know season passes are already selling at 20% higher than last year. And that we should expect a run on gear as soon as it comes out, so if you intend on getting anything new do it in October. I wouldn't be surprised if ski and board gear goes the same way of bikes and camping gear.

Yep, like launching North Cornice in late 90's. Had a couple good friends, get TWS & Snowboarder snaps back there.
Just gotta go further west. There'll be more slack country being made available.

Is it actually an HSQ? a rickety old double or triple would be more than sufficient.
Mixed feelings, but I guess it'll make it easier to get my little ripper up there sooner.

Where does Charlie draw the lift, to redeploy from?
Doesn’t have RCR assets anymore, of course. California again, seems unlikely.

I haven't done much snowboarding in the last 3-4 years, but I just moved to Vernon. Silver Star is only about a 45 minute drive, so hopefully I can get a lot more in.

I dunno; they don't look particularly rickety in this image, so probably new.
And it looks like it will be a quad (probably makes the most sense from a wind perspective anyways):
https://www.skiresort.info/ski-resor...lifts/l108632/
Increasing capacity from 900/hr to 2400 and reducing the effort required for Boomerang side. Backside laps will be a bit faster, but at least west bowl will be a slow loop. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I'm kind of sad that I've ridden my last platter without even knowing it.
(summit platter details: https://www.skiresort.info/ski-resor...-lifts/l87900/)
The long term plan also calls for a hut between TOW and this new lift...that would be really nice as my main gripe w/ Louise is how long/far it is from any warmth to the best skiing. I think their higher priority is building a lodge at the top of the gondola, though.
Interestingly, the summit lift was listed as phase 3 of the LRP (of 8 proposed phases, some of which are pipe dreams). Since it's essentially a replacement and all above tree-line, it makes sense that it was easiest to get approval for. Nice for marketing, too.
Flipping through the LRP I see that the Juniper Warming Hut I mentioned above is in phase 7, along with the Upper Juniper Lift (that would expedite west bowl laps). They do mention that the hut would be useful for the world cup events, so maybe it gets bumped up the priority list now, too.
