It'll end up being Rogers. They want all of the arenas.

Nothing wrong with that.

Since Canadian Tire dipped their toe in the naming rights pool in Ottawa, I'm expecting the new arena in Calgary to be named after Sport Chek or Mark's.
I said arena or stadium, 3 Rogers, 2 Scotiabank in a country with like 5 big cities.

I could be way wrong, but I would count WestJet out as a possible sponsor, what with the recent buyout and all.

How much does it cost for arena naming rights?

Rogers spent a reputed $5.2 million for 12 years for the Stinktown pile. So about $434,000/year?

Have to figure any Calgary facility would be higher than that

Yeah, WestJet wasn't really a threat to name a major arena when they weren't taken over by a company looking to shave every dollar possible to give them maximum valuation.

Just call it "Hell" with the sponsor name in front. No need for dome or arena following it.

Then teams coming in can say they're going to hell, tell the Flames nonchalantly to go to hell, and every time the rink is put down we can announce that hell has frozen over.

On the radio this AM they had some Francis quotes (so take them with a grain of salt):

"Will cost less than $600 Million"
"Will be 100 yards/m (can't remember) from the existing Saddledome"
"The owners are putting in 'significant' money"

Again it's Francis, and who knows what 'significant' means. We also don't know the land ownership, building ownership, taxes, rent, event management structure, etc. etc.

Just a tiny tidbit of info I heard, thought I'd share.

Did Francis mention how this will be a temporary home what with the team moving to Houston?

Not shooting the messenger, but that can't be right...that would put it between Saddledome Rise and 14th Ave.
It needs to be between 12th and 13th Ave to make sense I think.

The owners putting in "significant" money is literally a meaningless statement that would be made by the side supporting ownership.

Of course it's significant, it's their playground to up revenue...for them. $150mil would be significant and yet also not acceptable. Meaningless.

Could they be tearing down the corral and using that site?
