Well, just like Gulutzan's slow reaction to finally stick Dougie on PP1, it seems like he's figured out how to shorten the bench. At long last. After what seemed to be a whole season's worth of "Why are those guys on the ice??" Kulak/Stone, Janko/Hathaway, Lazar/Stajan/Brouwer saw very little ice time in the 3rd period last game vs the Isles.

A friend and I were discussing this at length against the Rangers. He needs to do that in the first few minutes of the 1st and set the tone, not rolling all four lines right off the bat, nor wait until the team desperately needs it.

Shall we blend them up to get better right left balance?

Oh wow. So much to say about that forward lineup, both personnel decisions, and the fact that a whole line is borderline NHL caliber. Not much to be done now, but I really expect better next year. We have the defensive assets to make it happen.

Also, why is defencemen handedness is such a huge deal, but it means crap-all when it comes to forwards? I just don't get it sometimes.

Just in time for the Oilers. Cheering as always, but the recent BOA losses have been tougher to brush off. Really need a win here, if only for my sanity

Voluntarily playing Chris Stewart should be a fireable offence.

I have no problem with putting Stewart in there against the Oilers. They have a lot of size and will no doubt be throwing their weight around tonight. As long as Stewart does his job and plays with a mean streak, he'll be fine.

So the Flames allowed 21 goals against in 4 games against the Oilers last year, 13 in 3 games this year, seven straight regular season losses, and four preseason losses just for good measure, and two of our top 6 scoring forwards are out of the lineup. Looks promising!

To be fair, this is the sort of scenario where the Flames win and raise our hopes again only to dash them later against the Coyotes.

Should have thrown Glass out there for a rematch against Kassian.

Yikes that lineup is terrible.

I have taken a break from booze this new year. I have decided to drink for tonight's game as it's likely the end to the flames season's hopes.

I predict flames have a strong start to grab the lead. Then something bad happens (pk goal, bad bounce) and they let the floodgates open and the go down by 2 or 3 within 10 mins. They wake up the following period and win the game by every frigin advance stat one can muster but can't score.

Story of the year.

Holy that is one of the worst bottom-sixes in recent memory, for any team. Just don't get scored on and let our top six run riot on their joke of a defence.

As sad and pathetic as this sounds, a win against the Oilers would be a great confidence booster for this team down the stretch.

Lose and the season is basically over. Biggest 2 points of the season tonight. Flames need to man up, put their work boots on, and make it happen. A big night from the 1st line would be nice.

Guess it’ll be Stewart’s job?

So expect the Flames to come out flat in the first and give the Oilers a few goal lead then turn it up a notch in the second and make it close in the third with a late rally but inevitably lose?

Everyone in the top 6 is better than everyone in the bottom six.

You could say that for half of the forwards on the roster. They haven't done much better than him. At least Janko had a two point night two games alone.

It's another move from GG that I don't like. I'm waiting for one that actually works out despite my hesitation.

Yup, that seems to be the pattern when it comes to big games. Let's hope they prove us all wrong tonight.

That third line hurts my soul.
There's no way a worse third line exists in the NHL.

He's had his chances and hasn't shown any mean streak. Playing him should cause a firing if we lose.
