Can we just ban anyone who posts a "who cares?" message to a thread they willingly entered?

His tweets are pretty pathetic for someone with such a big horn.

The issue in my opinion was the diluting of value by allowing anyone to have it. Now that they have restored the exclusiveness of it you will find significant blue checks in media and politics paying.
There are people who paid for the check mark and are now complaining that the check mark isn't as great as they wanted. They were paying $8 to look like they were somehow important, but now that anyone can also pay $8 to look important, they don't want it anymore. Did they magically think they were going to look official? People that bought the blue check are the same ones buying the fake LV bags.

The fun continues. I've been in situations where I thought the code and app architecture didn't comply with the law (privacy in my case), but I can't imagine being expected to be the one responsible for understanding the law well enough to ensure compliance. I am not a lawyer.

https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/10/...s-fine-warning

Quote:
Twitter’s privacy and security team is in turmoil after Elon Musk’s changes to the service bypassed the company’s standard data governance processes. The company’s chief privacy officer Damien Kieran, chief information security officer Lea Kissner, and chief compliance officer Marianne Fogarty have all resigned, according to two sources and an internal message seen by The Verge. Kissner confirmed their departure in a tweet.

...

One of the main issues appears to be the FTC settlement Twitter agreed to in May after getting caught using personal user info to target ads. If Twitter doesn’t comply with that agreement, the FTC can issue fines reaching into the billions of dollars, according to the note. The note goes on to say that the writer has “heard Alex Spiro (current head of Legal) say that Elon is willing to take on a huge amount of risk in relation to this company and its users, because ‘Elon puts rockets into space, he’s not afraid of the FTC.’”

...

I have heard another leader in the Legal department say that because of the tight SLA’s (of two weeks?!) between product inception > launch, Legal will “have to shift the burden to engineers” to self-certify compliance with FTC requirements and other laws. This will put huge amount of personal, professional and legal risk onto engineers: I anticipate that all of you will de pressured by management into pushing out changes that will likely lead to major incidents.

Well "engineers", you have the title, now you have the responsibilities of a real engineer, too!

That should be an easy achievement if the advertisers keep fleeing.

This guy seems to have zero idea how social media works. How are you going to make subscriptions half of revenue? People aren't going to pay to talk on your platform. This is how you cause an exodus and massive attrition of users.

Even if he wants to charge $, then he's got to provide an ecosystem of benefits for people to feel like its worth subscribing to like Amazon Prime etc.

Just make the subs $1000.

I've always said I'd rather have a business that sells a low number of really expensive things to rich people rather than a large number of cheaper things to everyone.

Probably safe to add constructive dismissal to the list of employee lawsuits Twitter's going to be dealing with.

This isn't the thread for this, but I've heard stories that this is changing pretty dramatically. People who were hiring and the demands were to work remotely, where they were met with "we decided to go in another direction."

I realise that for some positions and industries WFH is going to be the case, but it's not going to be everywhere and particularly if the power swings back to employers.
