I hope Chekov is the Grand Poobah of the Federation and has turned it into a semi-coherent entirely sarcastic version of the USSR.

Sure...he might be dead by now, he probably should be...but they can science their way out of that!

Walter Koeing is still alive, they could use him, they wouldn't need to do any aging makeup like they did with Kelley on the TNG.

When I was scrolling through your movie list I thought “I can’t believe he doesn’t have Nemesis at the bottom!” — then I realized Nemesis isn’t even ranked, which is appropriate. It’s the only one I truly dislike.

I don't have nemisis or insurrection.

Both were completely horrible.

I would have put Generations lower because it's the one where the entire TNG crew was infected with a virus that lowered their IQ 90%. Every decision made was stupid and Data was an annoying clown.

TMP I would have ranked higher just for Spock's line about how he successfully penetrated Vger's interior.

My current ranking:

1. Wrath of Khan (The gold standard. Trek movies don't get any better than this.)
2. Undiscovered Country
3. Voyage Home
4. First Contact
5. Search for Spock
6. Star Trek (2009)
7. Beyond
8. Into Darkness
9. Generations
10. Insurrection
11. The Motion Picture
12. Final Frontier
13. Nemesis

I’m a Final Frontier apologist, in that I actually think it’s a really interesting science-fiction movie.

Here’s a good article from a fellow apologist.

https://www.google.ca/amp/amp.denofg...final-frontier

It also has one of the best scenes of the whole series

Cool. Just learned The Rock made an appearance on ST:Voyager and fought Seven of Nine:

This was 5 short years after he was cut as a Calgary Stampeder....

Yeah, Nemesis was truly bad, but I think you're being a little harsh about Insurrection.

I watched it for the first time since it came out recently and I really enjoyed it. Spying on people as a lead up to their forced relocation (one way or another) to steal their natural resources is a recurring theme through history. When they were in the mountains being attacked by drones I remember at the time rolling my eyes, but now with the advances in real life drone technology it was actually an excellent choice. The music was absolutely flawless and truly beautiful.

The weakest parts I thought were a bad joke about boobs and a terrible Riker line "we're through running from these bastards."

It wasn't an action movie, and more like a super-produced two-hour episode that left room for the story to breathe, take its time revealing itself, have some humor, and characters other than Picard and Data to have some relevant moments/screen time.

My movie rankings are in order by my favorites, rather than what is objectively the better or lesser movie:

1) First Contact
2) Star Trek (2009)
3) Undiscovered Country
4) Voyage Home
5) Insurrection
6) Search For Spock
7) Wrath Of Kahn
8) Beyond
9) Generations
10) Into Darkness
11) Star Trek: The Motion Picture
12) The Final Frontier
13) Nemesis

The real tragedy of all this is how DS9 didn't get a film. The movie opens with s**t going down and the Emissary returns. Boom, off we go.

The Picard Data singing scene was truly awful. Worf going through puberty was cringeworthy. activate the emergency joy stick, almost made me get up and walk out of the theatre.

It just wasn't that good of a movie, the only thing that saved it from a horrific rating was that Nemisis was truly horrific.

I agree, but I don't agree, and I can't agree with agreeing to disagree. The singing was awkward, but Worf going through puberty was hilarious.

It was funny in the last two movies how much they decided they hated Worf. First with his comedy lines on getting zits, then in Nemesis the whole wedding scene with a drunk whiny Worf.

I mean I know there were rumors that people hated working with Dorn, but they went out of their way to make him awful.

Do you know of any links to material corroborating the stories of Dorn being hated? They all seem so buddy buddy in the convention videos. Do they just walk off the stage smiling and waving and then immediately go "shut up, Meg" to him?

There were a few interviews quite a while ago talking about Dorn being notoriously difficult to work with. Also if you look at convention reviews, he's not a favorite in terms of the fans that have met him.

I never take the buddy buddy interactions at conventions really seriously anymore. I think Galaxy Quest did a great job of things in terms of showing a cast member in disarray.

When I read this, I tried to remember the villain's name or purpose in the movie and serious can't remember anything about him other than the final fight sequence against Kirk in the center of the gravity well thing. The movie just doesn't really do much outside of good character moments between the Enterprise crew.

From everything I've read, the cast of TNG was extraordinarily close. They spent half their time on set fooling around, hung out together offset, were always pranking each other and making inside jokes, etc. They pretty much became close friends*. Dorn didn't quite fit in. Which doesn't mean he was difficult - just not best buddies like the rest of them.

By contrast, the set of DS9 was apparently extremely serious. The cast barely spoke to one another except in a professional context, let alone hung around together off set.

* The exception being Marina Sirtis and Gate McFadden, whose mutual antipathy is evident in any of those cast reunions at cons.

Its funny because Avery is supposedly very serious on set and a perfectionist and a bit out there. With TNG Stewart wasn't exactly warm with the cast off the start and it took him a couple of years to loosen up.

I think I've mentioned this before, but in every behind-the-scenes and documentary on Star Trek, Avery is a certifiable lunatic.

Hey Hey Hey he's a very talented certified Lunatic. In that one Captain's documentary you could tell that he was way freaking out there.
