That came well after the goal was actually scored and was a total blindside.

Bennett saved a goal and Sillinger saw him coming.

Completely different situations

Well, no, it was pretty much simultaneous. However the hit was the inferior choice to try and stop it.

Find it hilarious that we're hating on a player for not giving up.

You can literally see in the video provided that the ref didn't raise his hand at all, and that the commentators even said as much that there was no original penalty call
He could see, couldn’t he?

If it's the hit I'm thinking of, Scheifele could have played the puck and potentially stopped the goal, but opted to hit the player after the puck was shot and ignored the puck. This is not comparable IMO.

It's an illegal hit, wouldn't be shocked if it's yet another suspension

It's an illegal hit, because he was penalized for it. Who knows with the NHL, but do you really think Bennett had intent to injure with this play? I don't think so.

Imagine a player that's closest to the puck, in a situation that he can stop the puck from getting towards the net, letting it go because he thinks a D will block it, but rather than blocking it, the puck gets by the D and ends up in the net.

Player goes to the bench and tells the coach "sorry coach, thought the D would be able to block it so I decided not to make a play despite being in great position to do so".

Pretty sure that player is getting scratched next game

So much twisting ourselves into knots to justify one way or another that I'm starting to crave pretzels.

Another selfish play to ensure the team can't get back in the game and a likely suspension for Sammy.

I will be interested to see if his offense reverts next season too.

He slid down to cover his D who tried to block the shot. Almost looked like he was getting into block position himself, I don’t think he was expecting them kid to assume he was going to be allowed an easy empty net goal. This isn’t supposed to be victim blaming at all… but man. Opponents get fired up when they’re losing, and if you want to avoid a rage driven injury you gotta look out for yourself.

The alternate angles provided make more sense as he’s kind of in Sillingers blind spot. But he still looked like he wasn’t expecting any D coverage…

That’s the big thing too…it’s not clean. This angle is a better view.

Bennett took a bad line to the hit and had to almost closeline Sillinger to catch him.
What are you even watching???

its clear shoulder to the chest in the video you posted. Where you get "close line" I honestly have no idea.

I just don’t like unnecessary dirty hits
Don’t care who’s throwing them

But you like necessary dirty hits?

The whole “unnecessary” thing is completely lost on me. 4 mins in the game, is there a chart or something I can reference to when something isn’t necessary?

I've seen less suspended and he has a history...who knows though. Pretty dumb play though

I view anything that is more than what is required to separate player from puck being unnecessary
The time remaining doesn’t matter to me

I think Bennett almost killed that guy.
That was an intense hit.
It was violent, so I immediately thought it was dirty, but watching the replay, I don't know if it was. The Columbus player had just shot the puck, Bennett glided into him and didn't catch his head. Bennett maybe got the elbow up a little, after the initial contact.
