Wow, Kreator sound extremely different from when I used to listen to them. I might have to give their new album a listen.
This is the Kreator I know;
They really evolved their sound and matured as writers. I really like new Kreator compared to old Kreator as old Kreator (while good) sounds sort of like all old thrash does. New Kreator has its own sound and no other band sounds the same.
Received "Epicloud" by Townsend from Amazon yesterday along with "God is an Automaton" from one of my top bands of the past few years: Sybreed. Most haven't heard of them, but they're a quasi-industrial/groove metal outfit hailing from Switzerland. Catchy choruses, slick use of electronics, and machine gun riffing impacts the visage like a bucket of ice water in a volcano. Lyrics can be a bit goofy at times (owing to the lack of English as a first language and all), but oh well, I s'pose. I love the futuristic "spacey" edge in their tunes, and it strikes me as the kind of music the characters of Mass Effect would be listening to, if they listened to metal music.
and i happened to be in Seattle tonight for the first concert with replacement vocalist Floor Jansen. i knew her from After Forever and ReVamp (classically trained vocalist like Tarja Turunen) so i was cautiously optimistic, but damn i never expected her and the band to kick so much ass tonight.
if you're interested in what she sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfv5wA5uWpE
I always found that Anette couldn't match Marco like Tarja could. It always sounded so bad to me but I'm listening to a couple bootlegs from Floor on youtube. Dead to the World at the moment, she seems so much better. I really hope they go with her full time.
Haven't seen this posted yet, but Sam Dunn (Metal: A headbangers journey, Global Metal, Metal Evolution) has started a campaign to fund the Extreme Metal instalment of his Metal Evolution series. The so called "lost episode" that the TV networks/funders wouldn't back.
I kicked in my $10 for this, if your a fan of his work you know it'll be well done.

Awesome dude, would have loved to have been there. Sounded awesome.
actually the Seattle show was better. it was their first show with Floor and she was visibly nervous for the first couple of songs, but then really got into it and the whole band played with some really raw emotion. crowd was way more into it as well, with a mosh pit and crowd surfing going on that didn't happen in Portland

Man, after seeing alissa and elise with nightwish i checked out elise. This song is stuck in my head pretty bad right now.
Song is much more poppy but the album is pretty great, really enjoying it at the moment. I'm also a sucker for girl vocals mixed with some screaming, awesome stuff.
