Devin Townsend's 'By a thread' quadruple live shows are still kicking my ass. Very rare to see a 40 year old musician still in his creative and musical prime. I think he's the best singer/songwriter/producer in metal today, so maybe I'm biased:

Devin is truly metal's all-time greatest madman. King Diamond is pretty great, but Devin is like legitimately insane.

Didn't know this was coming out, sounds great! Another album to look forward to. 2012 has admirably seasoned my metal catalogue so far.

Don't know how many are interested but I love Dethklok, riffs are amazing. They put up a new song from the new album.

Never heard of these guys before.

Well I probably have heard of them (probably in this thread), but I just started to listen to this song and I'm really liking it.

Speaking of King Diamond for those that get VH1 classic, he will be one of the guests on this weeks That Metal Show.

Man, KATATONIA are one of my favourite bands of all time.

Do yourself a favour, and check our their earlier depressive rock stuff (Last Fair Deal Gone Down, Discouraged Ones, Tonight's Decision), and also their Doom metal stuff (Dance of December Souls, Brave Murder Day).

Another band I found recently is Zonaria. Sort of melo-death, but much heavier than traditional melo-death.

Sounds very Sepulturaish.

I've been digging this tune A LOT lately.

Video is stupid/corny as 'Eff, but they bring the rage and I love the drums in this one.

so Anette Olzon and Nightwish have parted ways

http://yle.fi/uutiset/anette_olzon_a...ompany/6317599

and i happened to be in Seattle tonight for the first concert with replacement vocalist Floor Jansen. i knew her from After Forever and ReVamp (classically trained vocalist like Tarja Turunen) so i was cautiously optimistic, but damn i never expected her and the band to kick so much ass tonight. i was worried that with her only joining the band yesterday things might be a bit rough, but aside from one small mistake i caught she nailed every song (especially the older ones, she sung them like Anette never could). in all honesty in the 4 times that i've seen them live now, this was easily the best show they've done. the entire band seemed so pumped, and the crowd was going nuts. once they launched into Dark Chest of Wonders and Floor proved that she had the pipes to do it justice, everyone really let loose. i really hope they make her the permanent vocalist

if you're interested in what she sounds like:

Nice to hear. I was kind of wondering if I'll go to Imaginaerum film premier + "megaconcert" (what ever that means) here in Helsinki.

Saw the band in February and was a little bit underwhelmed. But it sounds like they'll put on more of a show this time.

A new vocalist doesn't hurt my interest. Not that I hated Olzon, but I don't think she really had the kind of voice that's fitting for a band that has a huge sound like Nightwish.

Not really crazy about Jansen either, always felt she can do a lot of stuff but doesn't really have a voice of her own that's the sign of a really good vocalist. You know, something that grabs your attention in addition to hitting the right notes.

But, we'll see.
