Markstrom making a case for the Vezina
This graphic was put together after the NJ game on Thursday. He has been on fire the last 14 starts and I would argue he was pretty good early in the season too the team in front of him didn't give him much support.

Last summer fans thought it would take a 1st or multiple 1sts to move the contract. Goalies are unpredictable but I think there was something there with Sutter and Markstrom last year. Pure speculation on my part but I could see Sutter largely blaming Markstrom for that series loss and we heard Toffoli on the podcasts this summer say he would play head games with Marky telling him that Vladar needs to be ready despite the game being scoreless after a period.
Markstrom bouncing back is not surprising to me and he could be a huge reason this team stays in the race all year

Well, also, who can remember the last time the first shot on goal was a 2 on o1 or breakaway?

I think having your wife on her first pregnancy, and then caring for a new baby during the season probably had a massive impact on his play. I can't imagine the mental toughness required to play professionally (especially in goal), so anything that might impact a player's ability to focus would be difficult to overcome. Speaking from experience, the first pregnancy is extremely stressful.

Yup, I'm guessing this was the reason.

This is why Sutter has a Permissible Insemination Calendar.

This is an understatement, and every parent knows it.

Wait...what?
If that is what it sounds like...that seems insane.

Lmao that is insane, but would definitely not be the worst idea to get another edge, making sure at least one potential distraction is off the table (especially come Playoffs) lol and definitely sounds like a Sutter thing

One of Sutter's ex players said that Sutter didn't like his players having kids in the middle of the season. I don't remember the exact interview, but I remember someone making fun of it. It could've also been about a different coach, but I think it was about Sutter.

I can’t find the clip… I’m pretty sure it was Spittin Chicklets. Someone talking about how Sutter doesn’t like guys having kids during the season. I recall them alluding to it causing a rift between him and Markstrom.
… maybe I had a fever dream.

Well, whether that's true or not two facts are Christopher was born March 30 and Jessie was born April 17 (right at the start of round 2 of a playoff series for Chicago in 1985).
