A statement might be to influence the neutral arbitrator and to sound more sincere. I don't mind it. I just hope he totally doesn't sound sincere and the suspension is upheld. This team is a much better team without Wideman.
Did Wideman start his 20 game suspension as of last nights game or will it start after this appeal is done? Would be stupid if it was after the appeal because they can drag this thing till the season ends and than have him serve his 20 game suspension next year.

You don't need a Tinfoil hat to accuse the NHL of shady practice
But you do need a tinfoil hat, as well as a willingness to sacrifice what little shred of credibility you have left, to accuse a licensed medical practitioner of malpractice to protect the NHL.

Dave Babych.
Eric Lindros.
Ask the family of Derek Boogaard what they think about your statement.

enough with the personal bull#### please
many people believe that media outrage contributed to the length of suspension so give us your opinion but leave the other stuff out
Also many are questioning Wideman's injury so why not the official who was back in the game BEFORE Wideman and said he was "fine" after the game
Not much in Wideman's statement:
-apology to Don Henderson
-never intended to hurt or injure Don
-Flames have always honored officials on the ice. Cvik's sendoff a recent example.
-Can't comment further as suspension under appeal.

Granted. However, while Babych and Boogaard are definitely examples of malpractice, they aren't cases of someone inventing or exaggerating injuries specifically to protect the league as Mr. Credibility is arguing.

Huh, so a Team Doctor helping a team by hiding an injury is for you signifcantly more likely than a team doctor helping the team by diagnosing an injury.
So much more likely that someone loses all credibility if they even suggest the opposite side of the same coin.
Bizarre.

Again with the BS
Official was "fine" in his own words now a week later he is still injured
where is his press conference?
why isn't Francis questioning his injury on twitter?
You really think that if he tripped over his own skates he would still be missing games? Unions are a powerful thing
I kinda feel like Don Henderson is going to need some kind of player radar to tell him when there's a player near him. First Yannik Weber and now wideman.

A. Most hockey folks think it was way too much.
B. He thinks the league figured 10 days was the right amount and this is how to get there at the end of the day - figures the appeal will result in 10 games.
C. He thinks the position of the Flames and NHLPA - that it's not a suspend able offence at all, is the other end, and they would also accept 10.
D. Bettman wasn't at the hearing since he's the first line of appeal, and he might actually reduce it.
E. The further appeal has never been used before. He didn't say so, but to me that's a big reason for Bettman to try and get to suspension to an amount that all sides will accept. He may not want to risk the further publicity and possible negative result of an independent arbitrator. As a side note, I have always thought it odd that Bettman is the first level of appeal (then again, that's how it works in a lot of franchise arbitration snipe been involved with - its internal at the first level of appeal).
