Yeah Matheson is unaffiliated now.

No longer does he get the direct lines, quotes, inside scoops and face time with Slats or Lowe or Katz as was standard Oiler policy to schmooze the local beat writers in order to carry out their business and sway the fan sentiment towards player or coaches.

It takes a few years to decompress and it's clear that now that he's out of the loop. Jones isn't much different these days...without the perks that those guys puffed their chest about having among journalist circles, they can now see things a lot more objectively and also not be gagged by the organization as would've occured in the past.

Plus Matheson will never get over Draistial being snippy with him, nor the organization doing nothing about that either.

The Edmonton GM job is interesting.

On the one hand it seems like an unmitigated disaster, like being the only EMT to show up at 9/11. Kind of overwhelming.

On the other hand though...if you're Paul Coffey you can do no wrong, nobody will hold it against you and you're made of Teflon.
