Fair to say Johnny will go to eastern team.
Nyr has lots of possibilities as mentioned. Have some good pieces.
Can’t say nyi or Columbus. Nyi too capped out and might add Parise for a lot less (yes Johnny is better but they can dump Ladd and add a much better player who can help). Lou seems like a prick to do biz with. Columbus is strapped prospect wise and Ohio isn’t on coast where Johnny wants to be.
Philly is where he wants to play but they seem to be doing fine without him. AV doesn’t seem like the right coach for Johnny given his penchant for strong defence. If they really want him and he wants to go there, they can add him as ufa without giving up assets after giroux’s contract expires.
Buffalo has been talked about a lot in past so no need to beat that dead horse.
Wasn’t too keen on NJD. Ran across some proposals on one of their fan sites.
Trade 1
DEVILS GET
JOHNNY GAUDREAU
FLAMES GET
JESPER BRATT
NATHAN BASTIAN
2020 FIRST-ROUND PICK (ARI)
Trade 2
DEVILS GET
JOHNNY GAUDREAU
FLAMES GET
TY SMITH
MILES WOOD
2020 FIRST-ROUND PICK (ARI)
Trade 3
DEVILS GET
JOHNNY GAUDREAU
FLAMES GET
JOEY ANDERSON
WILL BUTCHER
2020 FIRST-ROUND PICK (ARI)/2020 FOURTH ROUND-PICK (NJ)
Definite slant towards devils but interesting to see what other fans see as possible return.

Those are some sad, depressing returns.
I don't see the guy who turned Dougie into Lindhom and Hanifin settling for those piles of trash for Johnny.

Yeah I saw those yesterday. Not a lot of meat on any of those. Just tertiary players and the ARZ pick.

At least they all have a 1st in there, but they all feel like quantity over quality.
In fact, these proposed returns feel less substantial than what Jersey got in the Hall trade.

The Smith version is probably the best, but I didn't care for him in his draft year.

If you take the one best part of all of the trade proposals from New Jersey and mash them together, you end up with Ty Smith, 2 first round picks and a 4th. That's about right.

Sorokin (he's NHL ready but the russian factor in light of COVID is a risk - he could stay over there for another 1-2 years)
Dobson
Wahlstrom
Not really any centres though.
CBJ - less sure they have the pieces I'd want.

Dobson for sure, would be serendipitous if the Flames were to acquire him. Wonder if Ho-Sang might be of interest as well. These are just suggestions. For sure the Flames would want more than Dobson coming back.
CBJ; wonder about Bemstrom and Bjorkstrand. Foudy might be of interest, and of course Anderson. Also wonder if the Jackets might move one of their G’s. Are the Flames all in on Rittich? I don’t think so, not yet anyway. I’m no goaltender coach though.
Regardless, I don’t think you can say definitively Rittich is ‘the guy’ moving forward. He’s going to have to earn the confidence of the team/management pretty quick. I hope he does. Would be one less big hole to fill.

Columbus might not be on the coast, but I bet it’s an hour/hour and a half flight to NJ/Philly. I’m sure HG would like to go play for the Flyers, but it might not work out that way.
I’m still not discounting CBJ. They have a pretty shrewd GM & they’ve been looking to fill a hole since Panarin left. There were rumours from pretty legitimate sources that they were going to offer sheet Marner, term being the reason it didn’t happen. Not much has changed since for the BJ’s. I bet they’re big game fishing and have some pieces that the Flames would be interested in,

I could see Dobson, Ho-Sang, their 1st
For
Gaudreau and Bennett.
Ho-Sang and Bennett both need a change of scenery, and even though he's been a huge bust on the Island, I still think there's some serious potential there.

That is just not enough.
Bennett >>> Ho-Sang
Gaudreau >>> Dobson + late 1st.

So they add.
I think it's a good basis.

Well, except that the Islanders don’t have a 1st round pick.

We trade Gaudreau in the prime of his career and the best piece we get back is Dobson?

What about the Panthers? They have 13m+ coming off the books and they have some pretty high end prospects.

I remember hearing they were looking to dump salary even before COVID. Not sure there is a fit there anyway, their young NHLer and prospect base is pretty thin.

Yea, Panthers management was telling management to shed $10M BEFORE Covid so that number might've even grew higher since.
Zero chance they take on any significant salary.

Cap space will become even more important in a COVID world, as more teams will have a lesser internal cap after losing money this year, and the unexpected flat cap over the next coming years.

I liked the Buffalo’s Cozen plus first round pick 8th overall for JG.

Another complicating factor will be who else is made available. Does Boeser (Or others) get put on the block and create competition for us? This will be a tough trade to make as it is likely that JG will be the best player in the deal and the return may be tough to stomach Initially. Hopefully we can make a deal like the Nieuwendyk/Iginla deal and acquire a young piece(s) that becomes part of our core for years to come.
