Whatever anyone’s job happens to be, if you have a say on whether trades happen or don’t, it’s professionally negligent to

A) be unreachable at the draft
B) given Ken’s health, I’ll actually give him personally a pass, but someone has to have the foresight to deputize someone in his stead. Or make sure Murray is by the phone.

King’s meddling was disastrous for the franchise. He’s the reason the team waited until it was far too late to move on from Iginla and Co. The guy had zero NHL expertise, and should have been left to glad-handing season ticket holders at luncheons.

Annoyed at people who want the Flames to tank. Plenty of franchises have won and created elite teams without tanking -- Boston and St. Louis come immediately to mind. I whole-heartedly agree with the philosophy to try to make the playoffs every year.

Not to mention, plenty of organizations who tanked got nowhere with it. See Edmonton, Buffalo. For all their hype Toronto added Tavares and still has done little. Colorado did great with mackinnon and Makar but outside that has only landeskog to show for a near decade of drafting.

It’s a bad plan.

Draft 4th in the right year you get makar. The wrong year, Bennett. Draft first you might get hischier or yakapov or mcjesus. That’s not a plan.
