A friend of mine was expelled from U of C for having another person write an exam for her. No problem, she just went to U of A instead with no consequences.
Having to live in Edmonton hardly constitutes "no consequences".

I didn't go to college or university and I am genuinely curious about this story. I always assumed if you were super rich you could simply buy your kids way in, without having to resort to anything illegal. Are there actual legal requirements that private schools need to adhere to when it comes to admissions, or is there complete discretion given to the school.
Well they cheated on tests. Had other people write them. Misrepresented their athletic achievements. So they deceived and defrauded the school to which they were applying. And they are not all private it seems. UT was on the list, a state school.
No doubt private schools will look favorably upon children of large donors, but I’m sure these parents saw this as a sure thing shortcut. Really glad this got sniffed out.
Loughlin and her husband allegedly paid $500k to get their two daughters into USC.
One of their daughters took a lot of flack from social media last year when she stated that the only reason she was going to school was to party and had little interest in attending classes.
Atleast of what I’ve seen, if you read it carefully it says she “agreed to pay” $500,000 which is different than actually forking over the cash.
A half million dollar scheme to attend USC is a little excessive, as far as illegal schemes go.

I knew a guy who would get his girlfriend to write his university exams. This happens a lot more than people think.
Well, that little statement says a whole hell of a lot more about you than it does about any American, myself included. Any, being the key word in your statement....clearly indicates you weren't generalizing and actually believe what you stated at face value.
I don't understand what kind of environment it takes for someone to have such a narrow view. I feel sorry for you.

When they make a movie about this, Vera Farmiga should play Felicity Huffman, Keri Russell should play Lori Loughlin, and this dog should play William H Macy.

I often wondered how a lot of celebrity/rich kids ever got the motivation to study and work hard on academics. I expect most would be like Justin Trudeau to which 1st year engineering was really hard so he decided to drop out of that and take the lowest path of resistance to get a university degree because it's not like he's ever really going to have to get his hands dirty to make a living so why put in the hard work.

Multi-million dollar donations are for the crass nouveau riche. Surely the proper way to get your mediocrity into an elite institution is with an equestrian or sailing scholarship. You won't even have to pay full tuition.

How did Bush get into Yale or Trump into UPenn? These guys weren't exactlyknown for thier academic achievements.
Bush got into Yale by virtue of being related to a previous Yale alumni, under a system that a lot of the elite US schools use, called legacy preferences. I'm not sure about Donald Trump getting into UPenn, but that legacy system is likely why Ivanka and Tiffany went to UPenn as well (but to Tiffany's credit she's now in law school at Georgetown and apparently getting by on her own merits).

Lol the thought of some of the rich dolt kids riding a horse or sailing. Best to keep it danger free and stick with knitting.

Notice how I said "a lot" and not "all"? I am aware that there are plenty examples of kids from rich or famous that have motivation and drive to be successful on their own but I wouldn't call them the norm.
