It's not an impossible task, but if he gets kicked off of Google and Apple devices, it will be a good year before he'd have any phone to sell, then time to build a market...Twitter would be dead(if it won't be already considering the direction). If they do get kicked off, i suspect they'd improve the mobile web interface, and direct everything throguh the browser as a workaround. It's how I view Twitter on my phone now.

The funny thing is he’d probably spend billions on a crappy phone that would run a Twitter app not realizing you can just use the mobile website.

Apple's ToS are terrible. They just abuse the market share they have in the US to extort other companies into turning over their revenues. By Apple's ToS, if Twitter goes to $8/m fees, $2.40/m of every subscription from a user with an iPhone would need to go to Apple. iPhones make up almost 90% of the youth market share in the US. It's just monopoly behavior and I fully understand why no app producer would want to pay Apple that much, but they are forced to as long as Apple controls so much of the US market.

Or just buy OnePlus or Nothing or some other phone maker.

It’s also been this way since we’ll before they owned the market. It’s not like they suddenly increased their fees when they hit 90%. They’ve had these fees since they were 10% of the market.

Yeah, I was going to say, making a new phone is a pointless endeavour (in this case it's a flex of "I have f-ck-off money") when you can just add the app to other third-party app stores on Android.

Buying an Android phone maker doesn't help him avoid a Google Play store ban. He could pre-load Twitter, but there'd be no way to push out app updates without investing a bunch more money into his own Google-like infrastructure
