Didn't Lou leave both New Jersey and Toronto because he wanted to be GM? I think GM is the job Lou wants and he will stay in the role.

Who would want to play for a team who's GM is a dinosaur that has stupid rules and outside a lucky run in 2012 hasn't built a winning team in like 15 years?

JT isn't exactly young. He can hope for a quick rebuild, but it's more likely that the Islanders are bad for a few more years.
I wouldn't want to stay in that situation, but I guess it depends on how much JT likes NY. He took a massive discount on his last contract and saw no benefit from the team.

And all draft picks returned to their rightful owners.

It won't help. Tavares is good friends with Weight - lived at his house when he first broke into the league.

Weird organization. Snow was probably the worst GM in the league for a decade, the last couple of years he started making good moves and then they get rid of him.

Remember when Garth Snow offered all of his picks in one draft to move up three spots and get Ryan Murray? Like 7 or 8 picks or something. Murray didn't even end up being that good.
Then, stuck with 4th overall he selected Griffin Reinhart...the next 7 picks had players like Reilly, Lindholm, Trouba, Dumba and Forsberg.
Not to mention, forced to keep all his picks in that draft, him and his amateur scouting team use every last one of them to select a defenseman.
Who does stuff like that?
Still kept his job for another 6 years though, so who am I to comment I suppose.

I can not fathom how Snow managed to stay for so long. Perhaps islanders can become relevant again, always had a soft spot for them.

Change a 2 to a 7 and you could be talking about your team.

Garth Snow's goaltending and management career story has always amazed me. Goes from playing as an NHL goaltender, to literally becoming the GM of a team 2 months after the season ends in 2006, while having zero management experience. How the heck do you go from NHL backup to the franchise's GM without being groomed, trained or paying your dues like other GM's have? Apparently he has a degree in Administration and that was enough...
I always found his story to be amazing, and that it lasted this long. Good for him.

A podcast I listen to suggested on good authority that he became extremely good friends with Wong while playing there, which is why he got the job. Then he signed a 10 year deal that was worth a lot of money that the new owners inherited. That is the deal that Friedman has alluded to recently.

I don't remember New Jersey, but he left Toronto because his wife stayed at home in the New York area and he traveled home a lot so he didn't want to keep doing that if he wasn't going to be GM in TO anymore.

Yeah pretty crazy how it all panned out. Who knew that one of Wang's craziest contracts would be the one he signs the GM to. I remember as the '06 season ended, there were rumours of an NHL player being offered the GM position in NY, and it turned out to be the backup goalie

I still remember interviews with Tavares, Hedman and Duchene prior to that 2009 draft. I wonder if Tavares ever regretted being drafted first overall instead of going to Tampa, where he'd have a Malkin-like status.
That Draft was kinda unlucky. So many first-round busts...

Say what you will about Garth Snow's performance as a GM, but when it comes to humiliating the Oilers in trades, he's got some mad skills in that category.

If Snow is so bad GM, how did he managed to steal our 1st round pick in a season we missed the playoffs?

Usually when you steal something you don’t lose anything of value and only gain something of value... to call Hamonic valueless is far from the truth.
