How are you doing?
I've finally gotten a job doing some landscaping. It's long days of just working largely by myself, and I've found a lot of time to simply... think. Really meditative stuff, I suppose, about who I am, what my purpose is, why we're all here, that sort of stuff. It's simply been just hours of being lost in my thoughts.
Today, I spent a lot of time thinking about the role of people in society. Not as a whole, but as individuals. If someone was to get hit by a car and just die as they were crossing the street, that's a lifetime's worth of experiences.... just gone. In an instant. All those times you were worried about a presentation or about memorizing lines for a school play... what was it all for?
Every individual person has stories to tell and a life to lead. I figured I'd start this thread as an outlet for people simply to say, just, how they're doing, and what they're dealing with, and what's bothering them, and what they want to accomplish in the future. It's not super complicated. What's happening? How have you been? Is anything worrying you? Are you really excited about anything?
Share your stories if you want. And if y'all think this is dumb, well, maybe it is. Add that as a blip to my story, I guess. But I hope this can just be a thread where we can all come and revel in the mundaneness and serendipity of life. Events unfolding, happening to us all at different speeds.

Interesting thread.
Your question about - "what is it all for?" is what we all contemplate. The simplest answer I can think of is that it's about living to create well-being for ourselves, those close to us, and if you can, people you will never even meet. That happens moment by moment, so the idea of it having all been worth it if it just can end suddenly is not the way to think about it. But understanding our own mortality is good motivation to make the most of life!

LOL, not my thing. Yeah it's existential and I expected these kinds of comments. Doesn't have to be super deep-thinking though, just... how's it going, mate?

Potential for a lot of interesting answers. St. Augustine in his Confessions sums up for me my world view and something that has brought me great peace:
"You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you."

Learned the hard way that life can be too short, so do whatever you can to be happy. If that means spending your savings on a vacation every year, go for it. If that means saving to enjoy retirement, do that. Have kids, don't have kids, buy a house, live in a trailer, whatever. Also, like the great Jim Jeffries said, try not to be a ####.
As for me, I'll have another beer.

The most existential concern I have of late is the realization that I've had a lot of bumps on the noggin in my life and it has occurred to me that I could be in a high-risk group for dealing with CTE as I get older. That thought troubles me and has had me thinking about really changing my projections for the length of quality life I should assume I have left.

When you watch your father die a painful death from Colon Cancer, you come to realise what is and what isn't important in life. Try to live your life with no regrets and never take anything for granted. Most of all do the things that make you happy.
My personal view is we are here on this Earth to make a difference in the lives of others. If the people in your life (family, friends and those you come in contact with) are better for knowing you, then you've done your job.
This quote from Morrie Schwartz sums things up nicely
"So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning."
— Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie

Ah #### dude. That sucks.
Has the rest of your family been supportive? Sounds like a ton to deal with alone.

Interesting thread!
I'm in my mid-30s and still in school, constantly broke.
However, I'm one year away from a Masters, and I'll be in Spain for three months come September.
Soooo...overall stressed but good.

Thread started at a quarter to midnight on a Tuesday. You're either working too hard or not hard enough.
I do appreciate a random musings thread about how people are doing in conjunction with the abortion discussion. Its like the Universe just needs balance.
