Lehner has been better than Markstrom each of the last two seasons, and is younger. If he got to UFA he was the best goalie available.
Lehner has lost two games 3-2 (OT), and 2-1 and has a .925 save percentage in this series vs. Dallas.
He has 5 goals against in the series. 3 of them on high danger shots, 2 on medium danger shots, and 0 on low danger shots.
Not his fault the forwards can't buy a goal at the other end of the ice. This isn't a Brian Elliott vs the Ducks situation where the goalie is single handedly costing them games.
(Out of curiosity I checked and Elliott let in 7(!!!) low danger goals against in that series. He let in the third most low danger goals of the entire playoffs...in 4 games)

I don't think it's a discount. I think this is because of the flat cap and lack of ticket revenue for the time being. Even Hall has mentioned the flat cap will negatively impact what he ends up making.
I'm also of the belief that the Bobrovsky contract and subsequent performance is going to scare alot of teams away from giving goalies huge money.

This team is slightly worse this coming year, but with Dylan Cozens, Nolan Foote, Marco Rossi, Hendrix Lapierre, Seth Jarvis and Rodion Amirov all in the fold. Plus $11.5 million dollars in cap space to play with the following year, during a flat cap.

I agree if a player signs in a desirable location before he can test the market that doesn’t set the market for the players that actually make it there

Namestnikov is a really solid player but I'm not sure a 4x4 contract for him would look great on the Flames' books. I think that's the low end of what it would take to get him.

I think it would, Hes Frolik 2.0 in my estimation.

I don’t see him getting that much term. But I do think he sticks at $4mil.

Elliott was so bad in that series.
I just took a look at Talbot in these playoffs...
Ugh.
Talbot allowed 6 low-danger goals in 10 games - oh and even worse, all 6 low-danger goals happened in the 6 games against Dallas...and he even had a friggin’ shutout in that series. Talbot may have won game 3 with that shutout, but he lost that series for us.
Compare that to:
Lehner: 2 in 21 games
Khudobin: 5 in 17
Varlamov: 4 in 18
Vasilevsky: 2 in 17
So yeah, goaltending was a big issue for the Flames in the playoffs. Massive.
This is why we’re rumoured to be in on these goalies on the trade market. The management team knows goaltending sunk them.

I get how someone might see the potential in Galchenyuk still, but I'm not sure if he brings much more than Jankowski at this point.

Playing goal in Vancouver is a lot different than playing goal for the Islanders or Vegas you can't just compare numbers. Markstrom absolutely carried a team that had no business making the playoffs let alone winning a round.

Right, but Frolik's $4.0 m cap hit from five years ago is worth closer to $6.0 m today.

point per game with the Canucks too.
if he comes back we keep our top 5 of our top 6 intact.
might have to upgrade on Pearson so he gets pushed down to the 3rd line.
