Same thing happened to the Uk during Brexit. We cannot sit here and act like these people can't make disastrous decisions

Growing up in Calgary, Alberta was so well led by the PCs. To think this rabble are even loosely the descendants of a statesman like Lougheed is depressing.

But it’s all around the world now - what the hell has happened to what used to be right of centre government?

If the Tories get back in here after the damage they’ve unleashed in this country, my wife and I have decided we’re moving to the Republic of Ireland. My wife is already looking at property in Carlingford and Omeath.

I agree, it is distressing to think what used to be the "law and order", small government, fiscal restraint, common sense type of party has been taken over by the anti-vaxer, conspiracy theorist crowd. I have voted for conservative parties all my life, but won't be voting for parties led by Danielle Smith, Brian Jean or Pierre Poilievre.

Interesting you say that. I was once what you'd consider a Conservative, and now.... I just can't align with these nut jobs. They simply cannot get anything right. Ever. It's almost as if the Conservatives are self sabotaging. From the outside it would not shock me in the least, if they are plants paid by the Liberals to be total morons. If that came to light, it would actually be believable some of them are so inept and out of touch.

However, I also cannot align with the left as there's just so many issues to deal with there. Namely the buffoon they call their leader, and the utter insanity of some of this 'Woke' ideology. As crazy as the Right has become, the Ultra Left is going equally as insane and living in a complete fantasy world with an equally frightening yet completely different vision of the future. Everything is such an exercise in extremism now. Nobody has the ability to debate, compromise or hear anyone else out. Both sides are equally to blame, and both sides are equally guilty.

My biggest fear is though is the state of affairs south of us. If Trump gets back in, I'm gonna do everything in my power to leave Canada, as I fear for our sovereignty should that happen. My wife is a dual Dutch/Canadian citizen, so I am working on learning Dutch so we can move to The Netherlands if or when things really start to unravel in North America.

I really hope this is just a bizarre phase in History that will be looked back on as a blip on the radar, but some of the Rabbit Holes are getting so deep, I fear we could be hitting a point of no return. Everyone just needs to learn to get along, stop dwelling on the past, hit the reset button and move forward, as one society.

Is it not correct to simply vote in your order of preference with ranked ballot? Are the UCP using some weird procedure that promotes strategic voting?

So stalling a two-tier healthcare system, provincial police force, Alberta pension, corporate welfare and other things the majority of Albertans don't want? got it... Not sure we agree on what "progress" is.

While it seems everyone has been drawn to the extremes, I don’t think most people have. Social media and the style of politics it fosters have amplified the voices of the extremes and encouraged them to feed off one another. But it’s up to the moderates (which is still most of us) to make our voices heard. If the moderate right told the nutbars on their side to take a hike, and the moderates on the left stopped giving the extremists on their side a free pass, we could get more responsible government. We just have to speak up, because politicians dance to the tune of whoever shouts loudest.

I agree, the moderates need to speak up for sure. But just out of curiosity, who are the extreme left that you're referring to?

It’s the weekend and I’m about to start my vacation, so I’d rather not get into it now. But a good place to start is with beliefs that are shared by less than a third of people (often much less), but treated by the progressive left as though they’re moral truths accepted by everyone of goodwill. Poke around somewhere like the Pew Research site and look at some polls. It’s not hard to see what I’m talking about.

Edit: I’ll give you one really easy one. Defund the police. Universally championed in online progressive circles. Toxic with voters.

I didn’t know Chrytania Freeland was originally from Alberta.

Bit of a rough go in Grande Prairie. I’d like to believe this is an isolated incident and that most people are more civil but who really knows.

I'm afraid far right Republican politics has rubbed off on Smith.

Don't forget this gem yesterday, in addition to endorsing and hugging Angry Milhouse and not saying anything about the violent harassment towards Christia Freeland.

Close friend is on her team and after reaching out they said the rest of the trip was fine, but certainly not an isolated incident by any means unfortunately.

The issue with the ultra left is that most (l)iberal parties have not taken hold of these ideas in the way the far left would want. Yet, the (c)onservative parties are embracing far right ideals with zeal!

I don't see Trudeau or Biden or Notley running around yelling "defund the police" (which I would argue is a rallying cry for policing reforms around mental health and not the scary thing many on the right seem to think it is), but i do see politicians on the right embracing some pretty bat#### policies, crying about the WEF, and talking about IRS/Environment Officers as if they are Brown Shirts.

The "woke" left is merely a fringe screaming on social media about gender fluidity and racial (over?)inclusion. hardly the boogeyman to be taken seriously.
