We would have the newest and ugliest arena all at the same time. Looks like a damn Cineplex.

I really don't care that much what the outside looks like. I want a steep seating arrangement where you feel on top of the ice and I want to use the washroom, grab a beer and a snack, and get back to my seat without missing any of the game.

What should have been the ultimate Center piece, it looks like a cheap after thought. I know the renderings need to be refined and changes will occur, but if the Flames botch this (since they have control now) it will just be another reason to abandons this ####ty franchise. Sounds dramatic, but this team hasn’t given me a single reason to believe in them since 2004. So disappointed with what has been presented so far.

I get the joy of driving by that ugly eyesore every couple of days. Went to one game there, and I was not impressed.
On a side note, we may have sold our house, and are looking for a place in Turner Valley or Black Diamond, Time to move back down South.

A friend of a friend gave me these early conceptual renders a few months ago.
Looks as though the concept has changed pretty significantly though.
Edit*
Mazrim had a good point; don't want anyone to get burned.

It just needs some fins to cut down on wind resistance, and I feel a racing stripe would look pretty sharp.

Really??? That’s super weird I can see people pretending to be empathetic or sympathetic to the Flames but that doesn’t excuse just flat out lying about the fact that this arena is fugly.
Based on AC’s photos this thing should be in communist Russia.

I wouldn't say the concept has changed much at all. This looks like a preliminary basic design that shows the use of the space, but is still in need of refinement. The images that AC posted are probably a little further along the refinement process and the image at the beginning of this thread, closer still to the final design.
In all three versions of the renderings, you can see the basic layout of the site. So, it looks like we're going to get the large main arena building with a smaller attached space (here labelled as "The Trail and Pavilion Courtyard") on the west side adjacent to 4th Street. The Pavilion space will likely contain a few restaurants and bars as well as shops. These will likely be open year-round, with arena access during events and street access all other times.
This is actually very similar to the layout of Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, which has some restaurants and the Team Store that are open to the street and open to the public outside of event times.

You're right; conceptually the massing looks similar, but the detail on the arena portion along 9th Ave is drastically different.
These renders feature a lot of glazing along 9th ave (which I think would be great), but in AC's renders, that's completely gone (value engineered out?).
The entire materiality seems to have changed as well. When I was given these renders, I was told mass timber would be featured throughout. I suppose, given the cost of material, and the much longer time frames to get material, they decided to be a little less ambitious with newer materials for this building type.

9th Ave? Isn't the site the SE corner of 12th Ave and 4th St SE?

Damn... I hope mass timber is still in the plans somewhere, at least a little bit. Just an absolutely gorgeous material.

Listen to yourself. You are ranting about a single render of an arena that hasn't even been build for crying out loud. That's super weird.

I would have been very happy with something like this. Simple, but it interacts well at street level, its warm and inviting, and looks like its constructed from high quality materials. The newest rendering suggests none of those things.

Why are we basing our opinions on AC's photos? They are very rough and older than the latest rendering.

Pretty informed opinion because you haven't seen what the inside of this place is going to be yet. Over react much?
