One of my all-time favourites. Just the perfect blend of skill and tenacity. How can you not love this guy:

It was a sad day when the Flames could no longer afford him and he got a big contract with the Flyers as a UFA.
Good enough for a share of 7th in playoff scoring. Only MacInnis, Mullen & Gilmour scored more points for the Flames than he did in those playoffs. Crazy. He also chipped in 5 goals and 10 assists in 1986. Those two seasons accounted for nearly half of his career playoff points.

It was sad to watch that '89 team dismantled. Gilmour. Mullen. Loob. MacInnis. Suter. Vernon. Niewendyk. But the saddest for me was the departure of Otto. It really marked the end of an era, and proof that the Flames could not fairly compete in the NHL at that time.

Voted Noodles I was a bit too young to remember Otto even though I will be probably will be the only one haha
I could understand Loob and Nilsson stealing some votes from Iginla and Fleury and will understand when McCowan steals some from Kipper (kind of). But #28 and #29 are inexcusable. Two defining Flames players who were unquestionably the most talented Flames player to ever wear their respective numbers and who played the majority of and most important years as a Flame against mid-level talent (Ranheim) and a career backup (McLennan). Different eras and youthful ignorance be damned.

Otto' matic !
Man watching Flames/Oilers line brawls from the '80s brings it all back.
I F'n hate them Semenko kneeing guys, Mcsorley grabbing much smaller guys . Oilers starting a line change in the midst of a fight to get an extra player on the ice.
Bring on the the season and BOA!
Otto vs Messier battles were epic. Guy was the best depth centre in the league and brought so much more to the team than points. Probably tied with Iggy as my favorite Flame ever.

Otto was a real tough SOB to play against, and if you doubt that for a second just ask Mark Messier or anyone that had to battle against him on a regular basis.
To this day during interviews with Messier he still has a genuine dislike, but respect when discussing the BOA and in particular the 1 on 1 battles with Joel Otto...no higher compete level along with that size and reach.
Hoping that Joe Colborne could continue to fill out and bring that consistent high level of competition on a regular basis, even if he has been moved to the wing.
