Tough to see any real downside for the Avs here.
The change of scenery may help him, and there's clearly a drive to be an NHLer; he could have gone back to the the KHL where he would presumably make more money.

Damn. I would have loved the flames to have signed him for that deal. No risk huge upside. If there is any chance he can make it back to what he was it will pay off huge for Colorado.

Good deal for the Avs. I would have loved to see the Flames take a chance on him.

The Avs will be a fun team to play as in NHL 20.

As a 2013 first rounder, I’m disappointed Tre didn’t grab him. 6/30 so far!

Nichushkin is not a big add by any means, but this news just piles into the larger feeling I'm having that the flames main competitors have all made substantial improvements this offseason, while the flames have not.
Colorado looks like a much stronger team heading into next season. Vegas also looks potent. Canucks look better albeit still not great. Phoenix has improved.
The cali teams haven't made improvements but their players seem to ebb and flow much more often so we can't discount them.
The oilers are the only team that I can identify in our division that has had a "worse" off season than we have, and that worries me.

He never really has been much of an NHL'er.

This kinda reminds me of the Canucks signing Alexander Burmistrov in 2017
Doubt it works out any better

Eh, given the age of our team, we should anticipate improvements mostly coming from within. Hockey players, partcularly offensive players, peak between 22 and 26 years old. Offensively, the only serious contributors on our 2019-20 roster outside that window are Backlund and Frolik.
It's not as much fun when your team isn't making big siginings and so on, but I think the doom-and-gloom around the Flames offseason is massively overblown.
I predict Nichushkin has a similar season to 2018-19.

Good gamble, no real risk. Amazing how far he has fallen since his draft hype though, lots of people though he should have been one of the top few picks.

Low risk signing by the Aves. I still think Nichushkin can figure things out in the NHL. A fresh start with the Aves can be exactly what he needs.

I highly doubt it. The guy has had very talented players to play with and could do nothing. He looked worse than Yak in the NHL.

Do the avs even have room for another forward.
I am growing a healthy dislike for that team. Lucky bastards....

this is exactly the point...guy isn't useful in the bottom six and not good enough for top six. Its really a pointless signing IMO.
No risk sure but...surprised its not a PTO
