I stand by my original statement. Nobody cares if you wish them a merry Christmas. You can ask 100 Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, Rastafarians, atheists, and agnostics if they're offended if someone wishes them a merry Christmas, and not one of them will say yes. I guarantee it. Ironically, if you polled 100 conservative Christians if they're offended by the greeting "Happy holidays", you'll find that lots of them are. Boy does that innocuous phrase sure trigger those delicate snowflakes.

I agree, nobody cares if you say merry christmas or happy holidays. Only on the internet or in the media is this an issue.completely manufactured

Not true at all, what's the point of banning something just because it looks scary? Why can't someone think a gun looks cool? I love the design of an AR-15. Newsflash: Everyone is different.

Please, can we keep the gun debate to one of 8 threads dedicated to it? This is a very important time and topic.

If police are corrupt and so willing to abuse Americans, I'd expect expect the union would have the same beliefs.

But that involves more taxes and less money for little Becky and Chads posh Orange County school. So instead, we will get black out tuesdays, white people kneeling in front of black people, and no real change will exist.
It's actually pretty infuriating to watch play out.

Why should it involve more taxes? Police have huge budgets in a lot of places. They must, if they can afford front-line-soldier level tactical gear. Instead of spending all that money on tear gas and tanks, spend it on proper training.

Police in general in the US just don't get great training.
Minimum training hours to be a law enforcement officer in the state of Pennsylvania? 760. (Local municipalities can enforce a higher number of hours, to be fair)
Minimum training for me to work in a salon doing hair? 1250.
So you have police, who are there as law enforcement. To become a laywer one needs years of specialized education in the rule of law, the ethics of it, etc. But you're telling me that we can give guys 760 hours of training and they can expertly enforce the laws that it takes others years to learn?
Police need better training, more thorough vetting of candidates, and continued screening as they work, as well as strict punishment when they overstep their authority. It's not that police don't have the budgets for it--they just don't spend the money that way.

There is no reason why a cop should be wearing flashbangs, tear gas, various other implements of war hanging off of his/her bulletproof vest. They should not have military grade armaments.
They should have exactly the tools to get the job done. They should be wearing baby blues, with a simple vest. If a situation is beyond what the are armed to handle, which happens very very rarely, then you deescalate and call in the appropriate backup.
No kid in the world would be comfortable walking up to a police officer in the States and asking for directions, when the cops look like that. The cops and RCMP in the Calgary area look as intimidating as hell.

I don't think the police are too intimidating

Yeah, sorry I didn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to respond, just that the discussion should happen outside this thread.

I think that there are some truly awful police.
I think that there are some police who are entirely too reactionary to safely be police.
I also think there are some incredibly dumb police.
This is where the intersection happens.
Quote:
The drone video shows hundreds of people at the Robert E. Lee Monument protesting the recent murder of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis.
In the video, a gray truck pulls up to the police barricade and it appears that a Richmond police officer sees the truck, turn and lobs tear gas at the vehicle.
When you look closely at the video, you see that the truck is escorted by police and is carrying more officers to the scene.
Once tear gas was deployed, a chain of events occurred where more gas was deployed, this time against the peaceful group of protesters gathered at the monument.
The crowd of demonstrators fled from the area around the monument to avoid the tear gas, and in a video captured by Virginia Public Media and shared with 8News, an officer is shown running after people and spraying them directly with what appears to be tear gas.

I think he was being sarcastic. They gave him "justice" the same way the U.S. "liberates" countries that they invade.

DC is preparing for possibly the biggest protests in history in Washington, on Saturday.
