I've seen the team reward a young player playing well in the minors before.

Especially with Christmas coming up, maybe it's just to give him a taste.

The atmosphere must be good around the team right now and he deserves a reward for how well he has played.

Matthew Phillips should become the first Flames player to wear #47 since Sven Baertschi.

Fleury and Gerbe were built like fire hydrants. Phillips is 150 lbs. I expect he'll the lightest skater to play the modern NHL.

Hopefully if enough of these homegrown forwards can develop into actual decent NHL players it will keep Treliving from trying to sign anymore "big name" UFA's to bloated contracts.

Get a couple decent young forwards contributing top 6 offensive numbers on ELC or still cheap 2nd contracts and it will also soften the blow of having a $5+ million 3rd/4th liner or $2+ million in buy out cap hits.

So go Phillips, Mangiapane and Dube.

Theo became a fire hydrant, he started as a fence post, for the front yard.

Stockton plays the Ontario Reign tomorrow night in Ontario. I guess we'll see if Phillips takes the flight to Calgary after the game.

In Dube and Phillips case they are literally home grown forwards. Never underestimate the power of what playing for your childhood team does to someone’s motivation. It’s just different imo

So excited to see the most adorable pro hockey player in the world suit up for the Flames. Hope he sticks so I can buy his jersey.

Few years back there were talks about bigger ice surfaces, Olympic size rinks cause there was no space out there.

Imagine all the costs to make this conversion...

Flames answer to this: Downsize your players....save money on the conversion and most importantly, for all you kids out there, size doesn't matter. You have the passion, the heart and tenacity, well you can do it, just as Theo, as Johnny or as Phillips have!

As my wife says, the best things come in small packages.

Phillips has worn 47 in every camp, I believe.

Edit: hmmm, guess he switched this year. Missed that. I'd totally internalized him as 47.
