If we are trading Tkachuk, I think Treliving will look for help on defense.

2nd overall + Ryan Graves.

Spending more assets on the blue line instead of Centre would be classic Tre.

Hahaha getting Stutzle straight up for Tkachuk who is 1 year from UFA with a $9M tag for the upcoming year would be a dream for the Flames!

The only thing you got right is it's not fair... For the Sens.

Yeah, you’re greatly undervaluing Tkachuk. Also, no one would be trading for him without the belief/already having permission to discuss a long term extension.

Stutzle is pencilled in as the #1C in the Sens rebuild. They aren’t trading him.

Any deal also has to factor in the value if gaining/losing cap space.

Personally, I doubt M Tkachuk hits 100 pts again. He benefited this season from playing with Gaudreau -who had a career year himself

Batherson
#7 OA

for

M Tkachuk
Valimaki

Batherson is 24, signed for five more seasons, and with 44 pts in 46 games last season already out-performing the $4.95 mil contract he signed in the fall. Put him on the top line with Gaudreau and it wouldn’t be a reach to pencil him in for 75-80 pts.

Flames get $4-5 mil cap space to help get a #2C or top D.

I don’t think the Flames are interested in a rebuild, so I could see Treliving flip the #7 OA in a deal for an established top-3 D.

Stutzle's still on his ELC, 5 years away from being a UFA, and just put up 0.73 ppg in his 2nd year in the league as a 20 year old.

Stutzle has legit franchise C potential, which is exactly what this franchise has been missing for 30 years. Of course there are no guarantees but this is one of the best possible swings you could take to get one.

Age matters, contract matters, POSITION matters.

Yes Tkachuk is a great player, 1st line winger no doubt but as a Flames fan if you haven't learned the importance of a stud C vs a stud winger over the last 30 years i don't know what to say.

If a Stutzle for Tkachuk straight up deal was on the table i'd drive Matthew to St. Louis to send the entire Tkachuk family on the same flight to Ottawa together.

To be fair, Eichel is a talented guy and will most likely have a bounce back season next year and Laine seemed to turn things around in Columbus this season (56 points in 56 games). But I agree that it’s possible the 2nd overall pick ends up being a bust and Chucky ends up being great in NJ

I know that this isn't the trade wish list/speculation thread, but it is really interesting that some of the names that the Flames might be floating are young, high end, and in demand players. What is most interesting to me is that if the Flames sign Johnny, and trade all three speculated players, they can reconstruct on the fly and still be a contender next year.

Tkachuk - cap constraints and the pure trade value of this player make this an option.
Mangiapane - career year and at peak value.
Hanifin - is he a #1 defenseman? Would another Tanev be a better option paired with Raz.

Wish list for replacement players - top defensive defenseman, top vet RW at the end of a contract. Load of first rounders.

Tkachuk to the Devils for #2 and Ryan Graves. Suggested above, and actually sounds good. Graves is on the final year of his deal at $3.1M and is defense first LD. Minute eater.

Mangiapane to Columbus for Jacob Voracek and 2023 first. Two years left at $8.25M, still a solid producer at RW. Do we believe in Toffoli as a top line option? A resurgent Dube-Monahan-Voracek second line could be lethal.

Hanifin to Detroit for Zadina and 2023 first. Detroit is stacked on the right side and weak on the left. Zadina has unrealized potential.

OUT - Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Hanifin
IN - Voracek, Zadina, Graves, #2 2022, two 2023 potential lottery tickets.

Downgrading with expiring contracts, but good players, and reloading on the fly with shots at Bedard and #2. Or, I'm too much of a homer right now, and am way out to lunch with what other GMs would be willing to do for young high end players.

My read from listening to Tree is that he’s going to try to bring the core back

I would be fine with that too. A world where Lucic retires is a world where he could possibly do that with around 27 million to sign Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane and then 4 more forwards and 3 more dman. Moving on from Monahan opens up even more money if you can move on from him. I suspect he will have to either move Monahan or not sign one of these 3 forwards though.

Why is Lucic retiring at 34?

If I remember correctly, he had considered retirement a couple of years back, but then he got traded to Calgary and had a semi resurgence here.

Why did Gord Kluzak retire at 27? I would guess he would consider it if he thought he could not play at the level he wanted to anymore.

Lucic retiring/traded/bought out, Monahan on IR until the end of the year, and a Tkachuk trade create some very interesting options for next year.

I feel like Lucic can go on LTIR with Scheuermann's disease

I thought he wasn't actually owed all that much cash in the last year of his deal. Though it would make more sense for him to be bought out and then sign somewhere for close to league min (is that even a thing under the CBA?).

Even with the potential locker room issues?

According to capfriendly buyout calculator Lucic would count as $4.7M against the cap. Not really much savings.
