Boy Felix is struggling bad. Just handed Cobolli the first set.
Yeah, I'm not going to read too much into tonight's loss, in retrospect, this could be a good thing, Felix needs some time off to recharge his batteries after playing so much tennis in Paris.
A collaboration between Fed and Wilson has produced the new RF 01 line of racquets and the Pro especially is getting very good reviews. Much lighter than the RF97 Autograph racquet, us mere mortals can actually wield this one.

Yeah, tennis never rests, but I have to think if this was not Felix's home tourney, he might be skipping this one. He does catch a break as his first round opponent is Cobolli who lost to Korda in the DC final this past weekend.
It's actually better now. Olympic tennis used to be 5 set finals (mens singles and doubles) and no final set tiebreak.
In 2004 Athens, Gonzo played a singles bronze medal match and doubles gold medal match in the same day, and saved match points in both of them.
He won singles bronze 16-14 in the 3rd set and won the doubles in 5 sets.
His partner Massu, went on to win Gold in singles the following day in 5 sets.
These were Chile's only ever gold medals in their history until these olympics when they won a female shooting gold.

Today is Federer's birthday, enjoy these highlights from his last Slam win the 2018 AO. For my money he will always have the highest peak ever, from 2004-2007 his record was 315 wins and 24 losses winning 11 Grand Slams. If he didn't have to deal with prime Nadal we would have won 30 Grand Slams easily.

Exactly...You posted the Fed - Cilic video above and 10 years ago, it was Cilic vs. Nishikori in the US Open final (it was supposed to be Novak vs. Fed).

Seems a bit redundant to the Blade, Ultra, Shift, Clash, etc. Wilson and Head have too many models IMO. Babolat and Yonex do a better job focusing on three distinct lines.

Yeah, both the Blade and Clash are pretty good sellers for Wilson even though they target different demographics (Blade is a control racquet for high level players including many pros while the Clash is more of a comfort racquet more suited for recreational players). I'm not sure how well the Shift is selling although I saw a recent video where Andy Roddick had decided to switch to the Shift (he helped put Babolat on the map before Rafa arrived on the scene). The Ultra is Wilson's power racquet although I think most people prefer either a Pure Drive or an Ezone over a Ultra.
The fact that this new racquet carries Roger's name (even has the RF logo on the butt cap) will definitely lead to big sales for Wilson, though.
I don't think the Shift is selling as much as Wilson hoped (Roddick using it is probably a hail mary by Wilson). I don't see many on the club level using it. This should sell because Federer racquets have historically sold well but it kind of puts the Pro Staff in a weird position as it's kind of an old line that has stayed popular mostly because of Roger but if this new model gets all that attention then does the Pro Staff fade away? Time will tell I guess.
So Leylah just went crashing out of the National Bank Open losing to Ashlyn Krueger 6-4 6-2. It was a shocking performance from Leylah, but I have to question the scheduling by the tourney organizers. Why put Leylah on a day match when she played three sets last night and didn't even get a full 24 hours to recover? Are we trying to help our homegrown players or put then at a disadvantage?!?

I think the Pro Staff still has a strong following and I think Roger/Wilson were smart in designing the RF 01 Pro to have more of a modern beam design and head shape as opposed to the more traditional box beam on the Pro Staff. As you say EE, time will tell, but tennis players are pretty brand loyal and those that like the Pro Staff feel and how it plays will probably still continue to use it.

The 01 Pro at $350 is pretty much on par with the top of the line across the major brands, but dang that'll hurt still. And then, I remember that for some reason there's pickleball paddles in this price range also, and suddenly I don't feel like as much of a sucker.
